Adz
Welcome everybody to episode 163 of the You Can't Cop This NBA Trading Card Podcast. We're your hosts, Russell, Gibson, and Adam, Amy, and joining us today, ah none other than Lane Pierce from 130 Point.
00:29.12
Adz
Lane, thanks for joining us.
00:30.40
Laine
agents not a problem my pleasure yeah it's been quite a while i um i'm not 100 sure how long it's been to be honest um it's yeah
00:34.97
youcantcompthis
Talis Lane, it's been maybe a hundred episodes since you've come on.
00:39.30
Adz
Something like that.
00:45.31
youcantcompthis
It's, but we're honored to have you back. I think that's a really big deal for us to get you back on, mate. So thank you so much. Like we're, it's been a, I feel like we've been nagging you to come on for maybe about a year now.
00:56.25
youcantcompthis
It's just finally taken this many weeks to get the stars to align, but we're here.
00:59.85
Laine
Yeah, yes, we have talked about it a bit.
01:00.16
youcantcompthis
So that's great. I think, Yeah, you got heaps of talks to us about today, but I think a really good place like ah an icebreaker, if you will.
01:03.85
Adz
Nothing.
01:08.98
youcantcompthis
Just tell us about your trip to the Nationals that you had. Like, tell us about the experience, you know, as someone walking around looking at all the different vendors and cards and stuff like that. But also tell us about maybe some of the more famous people you bumped into or some of the connections you made when you're over there.
01:24.29
Laine
Yeah, sure. That's, uh, what is it? Like two months ago now. So, um, I'm not 100% sure if my memory is going to serve me correctly, but it was a good show.
01:33.99
youcantcompthis
We never fact check on this show, by the way. So we're all about the story and the narrative here. That's what's really important to us.
01:38.20
Laine
it show out show it that makes for a good thing um it yeah well It was a good one for us.
01:39.47
youcantcompthis
Yeah. Yeah.
01:43.63
Laine
First year we actually set up at the national. It was my third national, I think it was. And this year we actually got set up as a corporate vendor, um something a little bit different for us. So we went there.
01:53.52
youcantcompthis
And you had a large amount of advertising there too, because I saw that on your banners on social media.
01:58.82
Laine
Yeah, so we were actually set as a vendor. We didn't have any banners up like on the roof or anything like that.
02:03.98
youcantcompthis
Oh, okay.
02:04.29
Laine
We spent most of our money, to be fair, setting up the booth. So our banners were our booth, essentially. We had a ah decent sized booth with all the banners set up in it.
02:12.81
youcantcompthis
Yeah, right, okay.
02:12.87
Laine
So yeah, that was a really good experience and just something that um I was looking forward to doing for a while and just wanted to sort of get out there and do it. Big thing, I guess, with it was that we wanted to sort of get the release of the app done as well at the same time.
02:29.26
Laine
We kind of coincided it with going to the national and we released it sort of first day of the national. We could have done it a little bit earlier, but I figured it was one of those things that's, you know, a good opportunity time to do it, do it at a show.
02:38.91
youcantcompthis
It's exciting. Yeah.
02:40.20
Laine
Yeah. Yeah.
02:40.52
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
02:40.66
Laine
So something sort of. attached to it which is great so we did that and then from there we went and you know I spoke to a heap of people at the show which is great had you know hundreds and hundreds and if not thousands of people stopped by the booth over the space of the was it five days almost four and a half days um yeah we talked to people who yeah loved using the website didn't know we had an app downloaded the app gave us feedback on certain things everybody was really positive
02:57.59
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
03:08.50
Laine
you know You had the occasional person who was querying things like, oh, why does this happen? and And how do you get this? And how do you know that's true? And you can kind of talk them through things. And yeah, a really good experience in that regard, just getting to meet people who use the app and have them come up and have a chat, really, just sort of get to know them a little bit.
03:25.83
youcantcompthis
I'm assuming for people it'd be good to put a face to your name because I feel like everyone knows what 130 point is or it's almost like a reference point how the word Google is now a word in society.
03:36.30
youcantcompthis
I think for collectors, you know, 130 point, like that's just what we use, isn't it? Now it's become so synonymous with collecting. So I'm sure people would, you know, just glad to see you.
03:44.68
Laine
Yeah.
03:45.44
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
03:46.18
Laine
Oh, look, it was, um, yeah, no, it was nice to, to speak to some of the people and, you know, i to have a chat with them and, and see what they think about it and, and get to know people as well. It's, it's a really, um, you know, I find it's a ah really good experience and, um, I personally enjoy speaking and meeting everyone and it's, it's just great.
04:05.52
Laine
We, um, you know, being in Australia, you don't have that connection to the US, like a lot of people do there where they go to shows, they, you know, spend, time here there and everywhere doing different shows every month and every week sometimes and they're catching up with the same people every few weeks and and yeah it's very different for us um Australians when we head over there and you know it's once a year almost for a lot of people it's the one time of the year you get to sort of see people that you've spoken to and and dealt with online or even as a collector you get to do the same sort of thing it's a it's a bit of an experience I guess so yeah no we um
04:39.56
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
04:41.99
Laine
We had a great time. And I guess for us, it was not just about the show. Like a lot of what I enjoy about the the national is outside of the actual show hours as well.
04:50.69
Adz
Yeah.
04:50.77
Laine
Um, we go to the trade nights as well. And you meet so many more people there as well. Again, and you get to see all these amazing cards, like, you know, 12 year old kids with, you know, a quarter of a million dollars worth of cards in their cases.
05:02.12
Laine
And, um, you know, it's just crazy. Some of the, some of the cards that appear at these trade nights when you got, you know, Yeah.
05:07.93
youcantcompthis
I'm jealous of these kids, by the way, too. like' I'm not even like ashamed to say it.
05:10.50
Adz
Yeah.
05:11.45
youcantcompthis
I see these collections. I'm like, that's just amazing. like
05:14.26
Laine
No, agreed.
05:14.78
youcantcompthis
ah
05:15.11
Laine
I see some of them I go, all right, fine. Carry on. Good work, mate. So yeah, we had a bit of fun there and sold a few cards and did a few trades and yeah, it's good for us.
05:25.55
Laine
um yeah Australians, we can move stuff there that we wouldn't normally move in Australia potentially as well if I i had some baseball stuff that
05:29.54
Adz
Mm.
05:33.02
Laine
You know, it does move a little bit here, but nothing like the US. We had way more interest in some of it over there. So yeah, that's a bit of everything in the show. Like you can get out of the national, whatever you want to get out of it.
05:44.76
Laine
There's um so much to offer really.
05:44.98
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
05:46.01
Adz
Yeah.
05:47.75
Laine
And yeah, we we sort of feel we got a really good value out of it and also had a bit of fun.
05:53.46
youcantcompthis
So what did you pick up for your PC that was your most notable?
05:59.26
Laine
Yeah, um, so Devin Booker is my PC mostly a bit of Oscar Piastri as well and some of the F1 guys, but This year, unfortunately, i I'm at the point now where I don't have much left and I want to pick up I did see one card there that was just way too expensive for me.
06:12.58
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
06:12.83
Adz
Yeah.
06:16.56
Laine
It was a Mojo prism um rookie and yeah, I think the price tag was something like seven or eight thousand dollars and I'm just Not in that that realm, you know these days to be spending that sort of money money on a Devon booking card.
06:27.99
youcantcompthis
So that's numbered to 25.
06:29.05
Laine
So Yeah, it's a 25 prisoner.
06:31.30
youcantcompthis
And is that, was it raw or graded?
06:31.34
Adz
Yeah.
06:33.80
Laine
No, it's a BGS 95 from memory, I think or PSA 9.
06:36.30
youcantcompthis
Okay.
06:36.35
Adz
Okay.
06:36.90
Laine
I can't remember but Yeah, it's a lot it's a lot to spend so But what I did come back with was um, my first ever Jordan Fleer rookie so never had one up until now it's always been one of those things you you kind of
06:37.49
youcantcompthis
That's not outrageous though, is it? But I get what you're saying in terms of the price targets. Yeah. Yeah.
06:48.93
Adz
Nice.
06:52.73
Laine
You know, to be fair, it was, it's, it's for our business, but not mine, but still at least it's the first time I've had one that's been in, in my possession and, uh, something I can actually hold and look at. So yeah, it's one of those, um, cards that I guess a lot of people sort of, you know, cover it over the collecting years.
07:02.31
youcantcompthis
Great.
07:08.70
Laine
If you sort of have been around long enough, you sort of eventually gravitate towards thinking, Oh, I wouldn't mind a Jordan rookie at some point.
07:08.79
Adz
Yeah.
07:14.79
Laine
Um, even if you're not his biggest fan, it's just a flare.
07:16.58
youcantcompthis
Just to clarify, Fleer or Star?
07:16.85
Adz
Yeah.
07:19.66
Laine
Yeah.
07:19.69
youcantcompthis
Okay.
07:20.22
Adz
Have you looked at the price of the Star ones now?
07:20.72
Laine
He's a flare rookie. God I'm a gun near them.
07:23.60
Adz
They're insane. Yeah.
07:25.08
Laine
Yeah, the prices are crazy Yeah, yeah, yeah, I guess it's for a lot of people it is yeah, it's ah Yep.
07:25.32
Adz
No, but the the the Flea ones, the Flea one you almost call a bucket list card. Yeah. It's on a lot of bucket lists. Yeah. Yep.
07:36.44
Laine
So anyway, yeah, we we um, we picked the one of those up But yeah overall Nothing huge for the PC. I just it's too hard to find stuff.
07:45.06
youcantcompthis
good
07:46.07
Laine
I got one last year. It's sitting behind me and No, it's not. It's tucked away somewhere here. I got a one-on-one Nike tag at last year's national of Hawker.
07:55.17
youcantcompthis
Fantastic.
07:55.42
Adz
nice or
07:56.76
youcantcompthis
Great.
07:57.53
Laine
So it might even be in my drawer. I'm not sure where I put it. Yeah, not that one. We've got so many cards here, I tuck them away.
08:07.39
Laine
Nah, can't find it. Not easily anyway, but it's nearby.
08:09.74
youcantcompthis
That's OK.
08:11.26
Adz
But yeah, i imagine I imagine going to the national would just be like, for me, ah pop culture wise, the the ultimate convention to go to would be San Diego Comic Con.
08:11.33
Laine
I know it's here somewhere.
08:24.18
Laine
Yeah, yeah Yeah,
08:24.32
Adz
Do you know what I mean? Like as as an enthusiast of comic books or or pop culture, you'd go, that's where I want to be. is that The national is literally that for cards, isn't it?
08:34.29
Laine
yeah, it's kind of like the the moment I guess in terms of about what you call it the the Mecca kind of If if that's what you want to call it for the trading cards it is You know, it's a
08:42.91
Adz
Yeah.
08:48.61
Laine
a huge event in terms of pure numbers of people that go there there's no card show in the world that compares just to the pure numbers of people and vendors that are there so um yeah that's obviously a big thing but you know at the same time you know it's it's a it's a straight show for cards pretty much there's no there's nothing else to it um whereas conversely we went to the fanatics fan fest as well this year and set up there
08:57.10
Adz
Yeah.
09:01.99
Adz
Yep.
09:17.67
Adz
Yep.
09:18.78
Laine
And that is a completely different beast. um So, you know, you're talking about a completely different, um I guess, design for the show where they're talking about, you know, a high portion of people going there being sports fans, not card collectors.
09:30.78
Adz
Mm.
09:38.27
Laine
um And the intent being that they can merge the two together ah by introducing people to cards and collectibles and
09:38.32
Adz
Okay.
09:47.19
Laine
and and bringing the sports players over to break boxes and doing doing collabs with them and and building know products that are based around you know like Travis Scott, Cactus Jack boxes and all that sort of stuff.
09:58.71
Laine
So, yeah.
09:59.30
youcantcompthis
It makes sense. And now that they've signed Marvel and all that type of stuff, you can sort of see it all coming into the same umbrella and how people that would enjoy Star Wars would maybe get into cards and then maybe get into basketball cards.
10:00.82
Adz
Yeah.
10:04.25
Laine
Yeah. yeah
10:10.93
youcantcompthis
I see that sort of slippery slope that they're trying to create.
10:12.57
Laine
Yeah.
10:13.45
youcantcompthis
yeah
10:13.92
Laine
yep Yeah, there's a bit of everything.
10:14.54
youcantcompthis
yeah
10:16.16
Laine
so Um, yeah, look, I'm interested to see sort of where everything goes and, um, yeah.
10:21.29
Adz
Or it heads, yeah. yeah would you what If someone was was planning on going to the national from Australia, say they were planning a trip next year, the year after, what is it?
10:29.95
Laine
Yep.
10:30.06
Adz
What advice would you give to someone going to their first national?
10:33.79
Laine
Yeah. but I guess, um, I've heard a few people sort of say this thing as well and, um, it's kind of have a plan. Um, cause you you really, you're going to be overwhelmed.
10:40.45
Adz
Yep.
10:43.37
Laine
Um, It is a very overwhelming experience when you get there to actually see everything here, everything.
10:47.25
Adz
Mm-hmm.
10:51.43
Laine
Um, there's so much happening. There's so much to see. And if you just start walking around and you know, try and just, you know,
10:58.87
Adz
Yeah.
11:01.34
Laine
see everything and and get to stuff, you're just going to find yourself struggling and and your brain gets overloaded and you're just going to, I don't know, you're gonna and I wouldn't say meltdown, but you're going to find it very tricky to to to maintain focus for the entire time you're there.
11:08.69
Adz
Yeah.
11:11.59
Adz
Yeah.
11:16.39
Laine
So yeah, it's a um very big, overwhelming show, but it's um so much to experience.
11:16.64
youcantcompthis
Yeah sure.
11:24.42
Laine
and And, you know, when it comes to planning, if you're not a vintage card person, you can knock out 40 to 50 percent of all tables pretty much depending on the year and the vendors and all that sort of thing so you know if that's the case if you don't care about vintage then cool or if you care about vintage cool go the other way you don't go to the modern tables um you know if there's particular ah brands that you like so say you're a tops person not a panini you've got the tops booth set up there you can visit them you don't go to the panini one like there's all these bits and pieces that you can kind of pull together and make it your experience
11:34.04
Adz
Mm.
11:56.34
youcantcompthis
Have they segregated tops from Panini? Is that what they've done or?
11:59.58
Laine
Yeah, they um usually have them like, when I wouldn't say segregated to such, but yes, they've got separate areas for them.
12:05.70
Adz
the foam barrier between the two.
12:07.40
Laine
um Yeah, they they last year, they were almost next to each other.
12:07.82
youcantcompthis
yeah
12:11.54
Laine
um This year, I think they're a little bit further away from each other.
12:11.55
youcantcompthis
ah
12:14.31
Laine
I'm just trying to remember they were not hugely like they're all in the same sort of area.
12:18.12
youcantcompthis
I'm surprised they went throwing rubbish bins at each other or something like this, you know.
12:21.13
Laine
knock I don't know, but ah no, they were definitely.
12:22.20
Adz
Goodness gracious.
12:24.57
Laine
um Yeah. Like there's a whole bunch of different people there. They have to be careful with how they lay things out But you know a lot of people generally the people who work for the companies get along for the most part from what I feel So, you know, they don't Some some of yeah, yeah, there's a few that have moved between one or the other so yeah, yeah, but no look, uh
12:30.06
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
12:35.71
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
12:36.57
Adz
Mm.
12:37.92
youcantcompthis
They're probably pretty incestuous anyway, right? They probably worked at Panini at one point anyway, all these tops employees, yeah.
12:47.20
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
12:50.73
Laine
Great show. Definitely worth getting to. Chicago next year is definitely probably out of my opinion, a lot of other people's opinions, the best venue. um The actual venue itself is is quite good. It's big.
13:02.44
Laine
It's sort of broken down into, last year's one was broken down into kind of three areas. So you could kind of move between each one. You could enter to do each area from the main entrance. So you didn't have to walk from one end to the other like you do with some of them.
13:13.65
Adz
Okay.
13:13.80
Laine
Like Atlantic City, you kind of go in and you've got to walk the whole length of it to get to something. um And, you know, this year in um Cleveland, it was kind of the same. You came in the door and had to walk from either end.
13:25.25
Laine
But it was easy to get around, to be honest, the Cleveland one, it was just the facilities were where, you know, they struggle with that many people, put it that way. That's just what happens with these things where Chicago seemed to be a bit better from that perspective.
13:32.52
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
13:33.08
Adz
Yeah.
13:38.38
Laine
You could get ah your hotel was across the road and there's plenty of hotels across the road in Chicago and just around the corner and a five minute walk away. So you know getting accommodation is quite easy whereas there's nothing around the like say for example Cleveland there's nothing around there or Atlantic City you've kind of got to walk a mile and a half up the road from your accommodation to get to it so you know all small issues but realistically Chicago great one to visit you know every yeah you're right there you don't need a car you walk in and out of the out of it if you want to break at lunchtime you can walk back to the hotel and put your feet up.
13:57.60
Adz
yeah
13:59.14
youcantcompthis
Sure.
14:11.20
youcantcompthis
The public transport's pretty good in Chicago too, so it's not like you can't get around that city either.
14:14.97
Laine
yeah Yeah, if you want to tell you've got plenty of opportunities to get in and out of the city and everything.
14:16.12
youcantcompthis
Yeah. Yeah.
14:17.09
Adz
Yeah. Hmm.
14:19.16
Laine
So yeah.
14:19.77
youcantcompthis
All right. Now you need to name drop for us lane. Did you see Gary V? Did you get a photo with him? Like who's the biggest person that you got to rub, that you got to rub shoulders with?
14:24.39
Laine
I've seen Gary Vee every year so far. So I don't know.
14:29.09
youcantcompthis
Does he know who you are? Are you like I'm Mr.
14:31.55
Laine
I don't but i's speak to him that much.
14:32.66
youcantcompthis
130 point or yeah.
14:34.69
Laine
I spoke to him a few times. First time I spoke to him, he seemed to know who we were. Our website was today.
14:39.05
youcantcompthis
Like surely he's used your app, you know?
14:40.02
Adz
Yeah.
14:41.44
Laine
ah Yeah, I guess.
14:42.59
Adz
Maybe.
14:44.11
Laine
I don't know what he uses. There's a few options out there. So I'm not going to I'm not going to berate him and try and, you know, do that. But he's like, he was just wandering around like he literally was walking around with his kids in front of us on on the first day, just checking out cards and stuff.
14:58.31
Laine
And I actually didn't even have a camera behind him, which was surprising.
14:58.35
Adz
Yeah.
15:01.19
Laine
Usually everywhere he goes, he's got a camera following him. But he was just having a day with his kids and just, you know, for once just walking around for an hour or two, just checking out cards and booths and
15:03.23
youcantcompthis
That's weird, yeah. yeah
15:09.69
Adz
scope.
15:10.57
Laine
You know, looking at singles and things.
15:11.83
Adz
Awesome.
15:12.32
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
15:13.17
Laine
Yeah, like there's a fair few people who came through. The the Nationals are a little bit less of the celebrity kind of um show. They're there, but they're there literally to do their autographs most of the time and then leave.
15:22.90
youcantcompthis
Sure.
15:23.13
Laine
um They're not usually just walking around the floor as much. Last year, there was a few walking around the floor, but we would like, say, Michael Rubin. you know um Meek Mill came with Michael Rubin last year.
15:29.92
Adz
Yeah.
15:32.36
Laine
um Jalen Rose was wandering around last year. um A few of those guys who yeah were doing things on the floor, um went to the different booths and so forth.
15:37.79
Adz
Yep.
15:39.98
Laine
um So yeah, it all keeps it.
15:41.07
youcantcompthis
Did you get a chance to get an autograph or for anyone?
15:43.82
Laine
No, it would just be, it was working the whole time.
15:45.85
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
15:46.16
Laine
And sort of honestly, I looked at the list initially and was like, nobody was jumping out at me. And you got to line up for a fair while. You got to pay for your tickets in a head, you know, in advance, all that sort of stuff. So it's one of those things, if you do want to do it and you want to meet the person, then yeah, that's great.
16:00.12
Laine
But look, honestly, over the three nationals I've been to, I've met Dr. Jay, met, who else did we meet? Valentina Shevchenko at a party.
16:12.36
youcantcompthis
Dr J can still dunk at 70 plus years of age too, I saw that on Instagram this week.
16:15.31
Laine
Probably doesn't need to jump.
16:17.49
youcantcompthis
Guys, what an athlete, honestly.
16:17.54
Laine
facebook
16:17.57
Adz
True.
16:20.13
Laine
Yeah, yeah. Met Barry Sanders, met Alan Iverson, Odell Beckham. They were all at one party. We went to, was it two years ago? That was great. Had a good time at that one. But that party never happened again. It was a NFT party at Panini Run.
16:34.03
Laine
um and we all chipped a whole bunch of us chipped in to buy a ticket for it and yeah really good night but yeah it was oh NFTs are still running and they're still going quite strong like there's a lot of um sales and and their volume and and so forth uh still there obviously it's a it's a different beast than um you know some of the other stuff like the old top shot but yeah it's still there um but yeah no that was previous shows but like fanatics fest there was a few
16:38.66
Adz
god
16:41.44
youcantcompthis
Is the service still running for the Panini NFTs? Yeah.
17:01.70
Laine
celebrity's run around and didn't necessarily meet them. I got to meet Grant Williams from Charlotte.
17:06.42
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
17:06.46
Laine
He came over to the booth and actually, you know, introduced him to the ARP and he showed him how to use it.
17:08.65
Adz
Oh,
17:10.70
youcantcompthis
Yeah, wow.
17:10.74
Laine
And it was just before he went and pulled the Luca NT RPA to 10 over at Mojo Brakes booth.
17:14.70
Adz
oh wow. Yeah.
17:18.32
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
17:18.60
Laine
Yeah. So he was pretty happy with that.
17:20.16
youcantcompthis
He's on a hot streak at the moment. He pulled a gold Charizard recently or some, ah something else he ripped.
17:22.22
Laine
Yeah, would have won a one the other day as well.
17:26.37
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
17:26.58
Laine
So yeah, you've got to watch out. Everybody was starting to get loaded boxes before you know.
17:30.75
Adz
That's it, that's it.
17:31.02
youcantcompthis
Or CT scan boxes. Maybe he's got a CT scanner.
17:32.62
Laine
Yeah, maybe.
17:32.70
Adz
Oh goodness gracious.
17:34.22
youcantcompthis
I mean, actually that makes sense more than anything, doesn't it? Like you would just take it to his, you know, physical therapist.
17:36.56
Laine
Take it
17:38.38
youcantcompthis
arch you know Can you check this box out for me? Like, done.
17:40.92
Laine
into the the hornets, you reckon, able to use the stadium CT scanner?
17:42.30
youcantcompthis
Yeah, definitely. I mean, it's starting to get a bit obvious now, Mr. Williams. so
17:47.46
Laine
Yeah, no.
17:47.65
youcantcompthis
that
17:48.38
Laine
Look, he's he seemed a really genuine guy, really excited. He was like like legitimately excited about his cards and and um yeah, just really easy to talk to.
17:53.62
youcantcompthis
yeah
17:58.02
Laine
And that was pretty cool. And for the rest of it, it was more just seeing the guys floating around.
18:00.65
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
18:01.14
Laine
Like Travis Scott was just like a hurricane. and He went through, literally, I was s queuing up to get a box and he was in front. um He came past us on his way out from doing his um box release thing and signing some boxes.
18:11.53
Adz
Mm.
18:12.22
Laine
And it was just insane. Like the people were just going nuts.
18:13.89
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
18:15.95
Laine
And yeah some people were being idiots.
18:16.29
youcantcompthis
Yeah. That's a proper to celebrity though, isn't it?
18:18.83
Laine
like some stuff But it was like full on, yeah.
18:19.57
youcantcompthis
Like, yeah. Yeah.
18:21.27
Laine
I didn't get to see Jay-Z, but he was there floating around.
18:23.50
youcantcompthis
Yeah. Wow.
18:24.45
Laine
um because they had set up a 40-40 club. This was at um the Fanatics Fest, not the National. So yeah, there's a, you know, these events, you get you really do get a chance to experience up close and personal with some of these athletes, particularly if you want the autograph signings, you you pay for the experience, you get to go and meet them, you get to stand there, get a photo, maybe get an autograph.
18:29.78
Adz
Yeah.
18:40.55
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
18:42.97
Laine
And most of them seem really, you know, genuinely, you know, supportive of the their fans. They really want to meet them.
18:49.85
youcantcompthis
And happy to be there. Yeah. Yeah.
18:51.67
Laine
Yeah, yeah, there's some people who are are less care less, but for the most part, you know, they get in there and they have a bit of fun.
18:54.83
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
18:57.93
Adz
Yeah.
18:59.21
youcantcompthis
All right. Let's have a break and then we'll come back and why don't we talk about your new 130 point app and we will do some, some live demo.
19:05.23
Laine
Yeah.
19:07.62
youcantcompthis
So.
19:08.34
Laine
Yeah.
19:15.44
youcantcompthis
All righty. We are back lads. How are you feeling? Have you had a drink? You feeling refreshed?
19:21.91
Adz
Yeah, i' full i'm i'm I'm always feeling refreshed after a break, Russell, you know me.
19:26.17
youcantcompthis
Yeah, that's it. Alrighty. Lane, let's, this is, this is what I wanted to really get you on and talk about. So for me, this is the main course. We've had the entree, but I really want to ah get your insights about your new app.
19:40.89
youcantcompthis
So basically tell us all about it. Tell us about the app launch. And then we, what we want to do is, is get a live demo from you and then we can put some of this stuff up into socials because yeah, I think it's just really important that
19:48.51
Laine
Yep.
19:55.65
youcantcompthis
we can actually use the app in the way that it should be used. And I think, you know, with that, those sort of tips and tricks, maybe we're missing some of the, you know, really important parts.
19:58.83
Adz
Yeah.
20:03.16
youcantcompthis
So and even if you have some demos, say on YouTube, you know, we can link to our listeners and, you know, our listeners can have a check that out.
20:03.65
Laine
pat yep
20:11.55
youcantcompthis
But, you know, if you would honor us with, you know, running through some demos, we would really appreciate that. So please.
20:17.03
Laine
Yeah, for sure.
20:17.61
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
20:21.49
Laine
Sure thing. um So yeah, the app, it's been a ah long time coming. I did start
20:26.81
youcantcompthis
How long have you been working on it for?
20:28.68
Laine
ah look Let's be honest, I started building an app probably five years ago. I'm not gonna lie.
20:32.27
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
20:33.26
Adz
wow
20:33.75
Laine
It's not the one that I eventually finished with. Sorry, I just caught my microphone headset on the wheel of my chair. um Yeah, the the app was something I started a long time ago, but unfortunately, we we're not, you know, I don't have piles of funding behind behind me like a lot of the US-based companies do.
20:49.20
Adz
Wow.
20:53.78
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
20:54.06
Laine
um So a lot of it's done myself.
20:55.28
Adz
Yep.
20:57.19
Laine
ah All of it's done myself for the most part.
20:57.67
Adz
yeah
20:59.07
Laine
There's been a bit of support of I've brought in the last sort of 12 months through a family member who's thankfully very well versed in IT and has been able to help me do some things that I needed to do in the back end.
21:10.06
Laine
But yeah know all the front end work, all the website, all the app, everything like that's been coded by me and then a good chunk of the back end of it as well.
21:10.49
youcantcompthis
Grant.
21:19.20
Laine
So yeah, it's it's hard to juggle obviously doing that stuff along with everything else. But you know we got there eventually as ah bit of a hard slog over the last, I guess 18 months has sort of been where I've been working really dedicated into actually building the app and trying to get it to a state where it was able to be released and hopefully not crash every five minutes or have major your issues. And, you know, like, unfortunately with any app, you can only test so much with so many people before you go live. And, you know, there were bugs and there still are some small bugs in it, but we're pretty confident, you know,
21:53.44
Laine
um I'm confident I've knocked over most of them. um But we'll just keep you know fixing you up and releasing your update as we need to, now that we've got the process yeah down pat.
22:00.34
Adz
Yeah.
22:02.56
Laine
So yeah, so it's good. um Basically, the idea with the app is it's a user-based app. So you're actually logged into it. It's not like the website where you just kind of jump on and use it.
22:13.97
Adz
Yeah.
22:14.17
Laine
The app's designed to be more user-focused in terms of you have your own account, um you log into it. And once you're logged into it, there's certain features that are just yours. So, you know, you've got your usual search functions on there. We do have a camera search function now as well. So like a lot of the apps out there, we actually have like a camera based search, which works reasonably well for certain, you know, certain cards that have been sold bought and sold a lot. And you've got a good reference for it or skill cards. It's a little bit harder to do, which is
22:44.78
Laine
just um because we're using a ah general search as opposed to ah an index specific search like some of the other platforms use.
22:51.70
Adz
Yeah.
22:51.99
Laine
um we We search all sales. You can use the camera search to search every one of the 21 odd million sales we have in the database at any given time.
23:02.89
Laine
So yeah, that's a little bit trickier to sort of get to work in a very...
23:07.89
youcantcompthis
Couldn't interrupt for two seconds.
23:09.39
Laine
Yeah.
23:09.77
youcantcompthis
How long does this does the sales data stay in your database for? Is it three months, six months, 12 months?
23:15.24
Laine
Yeah.
23:16.45
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
23:16.55
Laine
So our our agreement with eBay means it's 90 days is what we use for their data.
23:20.62
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
23:20.83
Laine
Everybody else, we have open access. So for all our other five marketplaces that are currently live and soon to be another, soon to be two more added to it. So there'll be seven or eight total in the near future.
23:32.77
youcantcompthis
What marketplaces are you with?
23:34.52
Laine
So at the moment, obviously we have eBay, we have Fanatics Collect, so PWCC, now Fanatics Collect, Mice Labs, Golden, Pristine Auction, and Heritage Auction.
23:36.45
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
23:44.45
youcantcompthis
Yeah, wow.
23:45.56
Laine
They're our six at the moment and we're in the process of adding in a very swap and one that will probably ruffle a few feathers maybe is a card hobby. They're getting added in as well.
23:56.92
youcantcompthis
Okay.
23:57.78
Laine
So they'll be, yeah you know, interesting.
23:59.69
youcantcompthis
That is definitely going to piss people off.
24:03.45
Laine
So it'll start another aspect, I guess, to the whole picture for people and they can, you know, it's like anything I like,
24:07.74
Adz
Mm.
24:12.60
Laine
I like to present people the data. that My philosophy is I'll present the data to people. We'll do the best we can to make sure our data's as correct as we can get it. And it's up to people to make a decision based on what they have in front of them.
24:23.65
Laine
I don't want to tell them what their card's worth. They need to make the decision based on what they can see and what they...
24:29.53
youcantcompthis
The comps on and that platform though are so different to every other platform. I think that's the issue but that I have with it.
24:36.55
Laine
Yeah. there's There's... But that's the same you could say the same for the difference between eBay US versus eBay UK. um You know, the soccer cards might sell for more on eBay UK because there's collectors in the UK who care about a certain player more than they do in the US.
24:51.89
Adz
I know.
24:53.40
Laine
um it's It's a very similar thing like James Harden cards sell for more on card hobby than they do anywhere in the world from what I can see. But like he's one of the most popular guys on there um amongst a a few.
25:06.29
Laine
There's a few specific players who sell way better on card hobby than they do anywhere in the world.
25:10.69
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
25:11.42
Laine
So it's just a I guess it's a um ah bit of perspective for people, I guess, to see where.
25:18.05
youcantcompthis
And card hobby with the data be there in perpetuity or it also after 90 days it will come off.
25:24.47
Laine
As far as I'm aware, are we you know in perpetuity, so we we haven't
25:27.41
youcantcompthis
Yeah, right.
25:29.25
Laine
had discussions about it not being retained.
25:31.26
youcantcompthis
It's a shame that eBay data can't stay for a little bit longer.
25:34.15
Laine
ah Yeah, that's something we're trying to work with eBay on because other platforms do do it. um And other platforms that do do it actually sell access to that platform.
25:39.20
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
25:43.59
Laine
We don't, we'rere we're still making sure that with everything we do is free. We offer free access to the data like we're meant to through our agreement with eBay. And at the end of the day, we want to maintain that arrangement with them and and keep you know, a good relationship with them.
25:58.56
Laine
So when we're not ever charging for data and we want to sort of work with them and see if there's that you know possibility of extending the the duration of available data for people. But yeah, look, realistically, you know, two, three, four years worth of data does it.
26:07.73
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
26:13.29
Laine
It's good for looking at maybe long-term data analysis and things like that.
26:16.97
Adz
Mm hmm.
26:17.85
Laine
Yeah, if for car
26:17.94
youcantcompthis
I was going to say even 12 months will be quite handy.
26:19.90
Laine
yeah
26:19.90
youcantcompthis
You know, that sort of gives you like a pretty good picture of what's been happening.
26:22.24
Laine
exactly. Yeah.
26:22.82
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
26:23.46
Laine
If a card sold four years ago, or sold during COVID, you're not really going to use that as a comp for right now, because it's just too dated, too many things have happened since then.
26:30.44
Adz
Yeah.
26:33.33
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
26:34.00
Laine
It's not worth it. Like, it's good to see what they might have sold for. And it makes for good, you know, analytical staff, or if there's a specific card that you're tracking the, you know, over the five, six, 10 sales or whatever might happen over a decade for it.
26:46.14
Adz
Yeah.
26:46.31
Laine
Great. That's, that's what that's good for. But ultimately, when you're looking more generally, like we do, we look at You know, 130 points designed to sort of cover everything. It covers the the whole gamut of sales um from the $1 card to the, you know, $1 million dollar card.
27:02.47
Laine
We want to...
27:03.31
youcantcompthis
It's the the devil's advocate sales post. I think that's what you're trying to say, isn't it? You're just trying to give the complete picture and and both sides of like what's happening out there.
27:09.98
Laine
Yeah.
27:11.24
Adz
Yeah.
27:11.99
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
27:12.04
Laine
Yep.
27:12.27
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
27:12.50
Adz
Yep.
27:13.09
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
27:13.12
Laine
And now that, you know, I guess card hobbies opening up and has opened up to most parts of the collecting world.
27:13.17
youcantcompthis
I like that.
27:19.25
Laine
So, you know, you can access it here in Australia, no problems. US, Europe, I assume. I don't know myself personally, but I know that they' they're sort of expanded there their, their offices out.
27:29.86
Laine
So the fact that we can all buy cards from them means that it's not like it's a closed system anymore.
27:36.99
youcantcompthis
Sure.
27:37.44
Laine
are Yeah, that's just then and you know, we can start they're starting to open it up for selling as well We've got approval to sell on their platform at the moment too, which is one of the first sort of Australian people will be able to sell on their platform if we want to We've listed a few cards.
27:42.41
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
27:50.52
youcantcompthis
Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah.
27:51.75
Adz
Oh.
27:52.41
Laine
You haven't sold one yet. It's been a early days. But um, yeah, we've had some interest in some of the stuff which was submitted up there so I guess it's just a case of seeing if we can You know make a sale or two and see how it all works
28:04.67
youcantcompthis
Great. Sorry. I completely segwayed you then. What were you saying?
28:07.69
Laine
That's all good. It's part of the app.
28:08.45
youcantcompthis
yeah That's right.
28:09.13
Laine
It's all good.
28:09.74
Adz
Yeah.
28:10.18
youcantcompthis
but We're talking about the 130 point up. Yeah.
28:15.31
youcantcompthis
All righty. So we're talking about 130 point up and you've been working on it for about five years. I think that's about where we were.
28:20.63
Laine
Yeah, I guess, yeah, five years I was when I originally started, but I took a few breaks here and there and it it sort of i wrote restarted from scratch, I guess, um last year because yeah the thing with that coding is it changes very quickly.
28:20.73
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
28:31.54
Laine
And if you don't maintain your code base and keep updating things, then by the time you come back to it, it's um it's now kind of broken. It doesn't work anymore. So um yeah, mobile applications move pretty quickly these days.
28:39.49
Adz
Yeah.
28:43.18
Laine
I can yeah go a week and come back and there's new versions of the packages I'm using because I've updated something. So yeah, it's it's a pretty fast moving world.
28:49.82
Adz
Wow.
28:51.88
Laine
And um it's basically got us to the point now where yeah the app as I said you can do your camera search you can do your normal basic search of just text um you can save items now so you can actually watch them so if you've got an item that's for sale and you want to watch it like you would on eBay but you can now watch it on six marketplaces soon to be eight hopefully towards 12 come the end of the year early next year you can
29:08.42
Adz
Yeah.
29:15.10
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
29:16.85
Laine
You know, say you want to, you know, for me, I want to look for Devon Booker rookie cards, right? I type in Devon Booker rookie into the search and I get results across six marketplaces and I can save an item from any marketplace I want. It sits in my watched items and um three hours, 30 minutes and five minutes before that auction ends, I can get a notification telling me that item is ending.
29:38.07
Laine
And if I want to go bid on it, I click the notification. It takes me to eBay. It takes me to golden. It takes me to finance, collect whatever website it's from. And I bid on their site.
29:45.76
Adz
Yeah.
29:46.70
Laine
I don't bid on ah on the app the app. Just sort of aggregates data and moves you to the actual marketplace.
29:52.60
Adz
Yeah.
29:52.77
youcantcompthis
Go ahead.
29:53.18
Laine
um
29:53.36
Adz
It's a real, real facilitating, um, function is, is what the app is as draws data from everywhere.
29:56.71
Laine
Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
29:59.58
Adz
And, and it gives you the option, which is, I guess.
29:59.75
Laine
Yep. Yeah, it's trying to make people's life life a bit easier, I guess.
30:02.31
Adz
but Yeah.
30:04.01
Laine
Yeah. um And, you know, I find it good for me and I hope other people find it good for them as well. And, you know, same thing with saved searches. You can you can save your searches down. We haven't got the notifications for that yet because it's a little bit trickier in that, you know, what happens if your saved search is just for rookie?
30:20.85
Laine
And that means that if I'm going to give you a notification anytime a new listing of rookie comes up, you're going to get a million notifications a minute. So we'll look at more of a, I guess, consolidated um Notification like a daily post or you know, something like that We've got it it's it's a bit trickier to work out how you consolidate Large pools of data like that into a notification that doesn't get you banned from using notifications so because if you yeah yeah Yeah, it overloads the notification servers and they they block you so
30:34.07
Adz
oh
30:44.98
Adz
Yeah, you don't wanna be going out um like every yeah every couple of um couple of minutes with a notification. ah you you You also do wanna be able to say when auctions are ending.
31:01.28
Laine
Yeah. Yep.
31:02.09
Adz
Oh, yeah, there's a balancing act there for sure.
31:04.81
Laine
Yep. So anyway, that's a part of it. Um, yeah, we've got a notification screen. We've got, you know, user defaults and things like that. You can change in the app and, and, you know, just to make things like currency default to Australian, US, Canadian, New Zealand, whatever you want.
31:13.55
Adz
Yeah. Yeah.
31:19.49
Laine
Um, you know, a bunch of things like that. We're just sort of adding and, you know, we've got features we want to add in the future as well. And and we'll just sort of start taking them on where we can.
31:27.45
youcantcompthis
Great. Are you able to reduce the number of notifications? Because you said something like every three hours before, then five minutes before. Could you just, for example, if you wanted only one hour before, just do it like that. Is that possible?
31:41.94
Laine
Oh, look, we we can look at it in the future, but it's ah becomes the coding for it becomes a little bit tricky because you have to run code, you know, basically then every minute to look at any ones that are going to finish in whatever time frame the user specified.
31:56.83
Laine
So it gets a there's a little bit complex on the back end and it costs money to run things like that all the time, unfortunately.
31:59.45
Adz
Yep.
32:02.68
youcantcompthis
Okay.
32:03.05
Adz
Yeah.
32:03.38
Laine
Yeah.
32:03.69
youcantcompthis
Yeah. And so can you please tell us about some of your favorite features on the app that you'd like your users to be able to do and then how would we best to use the app?
32:12.57
Laine
Yeah.
32:14.95
youcantcompthis
That's the that's the main one I want to talk to you about.
32:16.86
Laine
Yeah, for sure.
32:17.26
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
32:17.46
Laine
Like, ah I think the watch items thing is fantastic. For me as a collector, um you know, it suits anyone. It can be a collector, it could be an investor, it could be anybody who's out there. They can use the app to find the cards they want to buy across all the platforms in one place.
32:34.43
Laine
I personally don't have time to go and search on six different marketplaces and you know there's more than that out there and see if any cards I want to buy have just been listed or are now live or are going to finish soon. I can go in once a day, once every few days, whatever I want and just type in the search and just see what comes up and go, oh yeah, that's a new one. I didn't know that was I was selling that. I wouldn't mind buying that one. It just gives you that simplicity of targeting what you want in one place.
33:04.25
Laine
It allows you to do that. So that's for me as a, you know, yes, I have cards that I sell as a business, but as a collector as well, I like that element of it to be able to actually watch my items that I want to buy and see if there's something I want to pick it up.
33:17.16
youcantcompthis
Yeah, great. Can you show us a quick demo of the screen?
33:18.90
Adz
Yeah.
33:20.28
youcantcompthis
Is that possible to do that? and then
33:22.03
Laine
Yeah, we're going to try, but unfortunately, I don't know if there's something you guys can do on your end.
33:22.35
youcantcompthis
yeah
33:26.04
youcantcompthis
Oh, okay.
33:26.40
Laine
I can't change my video settings while we're live, but look of it. I'm going to mute my camera just to see if it helps me, allows me to change something and I'll see if that works.
33:34.96
youcantcompthis
so
33:41.64
Laine
No, unfortunately it won't let me change it. So, you know, my great plan to actually show you the app live, unless there's a way I can do that, it's not going to work.
33:51.03
youcantcompthis
Hey, e if we end this live feed and then come back in and then we do the demo.
33:52.14
Adz
Yeah.
33:57.53
Adz
Well, if, if, if Lane leaves and comes back in, that should be fine.
33:58.02
Laine
Yeah.
34:02.27
Laine
Okay, I'll do that then.
34:03.46
Adz
So I'll.
34:04.19
youcantcompthis
I think we need to stop the feed. Don't let the upload. And then we need to.
34:08.33
Adz
Oh, you need to start a new Zencast to feed.
34:10.71
youcantcompthis
Yeah, I think so, man.
34:11.73
Adz
Okay.
34:11.94
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
34:12.66
Adz
That's fine.
34:12.80
Laine
I'll just put my face in the corner.
34:12.80
youcantcompthis
And is that going to, is that going to mock you up?
34:13.95
Adz
Well, I'm not, I, I'm the, the live stream to YouTube won't stop. I'll be.
34:18.65
youcantcompthis
Okay.
34:19.48
Adz
he because i've I'm on a separate camera on YouTube.
34:20.15
youcantcompthis
Okay.
34:22.13
Adz
So you guys will disappear and that'll be weird.
34:22.66
youcantcompthis
All right, great. Yeah.
34:26.04
Adz
I'll be by myself in the bottom corner of the screen for a bit.
34:27.31
youcantcompthis
So, Lane, what I'll do is I'll just stop the feed, but don't exit until the upload is finished.
34:27.92
Laine
There.
34:30.97
Laine
that
34:32.90
youcantcompthis
and
00:00.01
Laine
doing it through.
00:01.03
youcantcompthis
OK. All right.
00:02.33
Adz
It might be black.
00:03.67
youcantcompthis
We're back. Welcome back, everyone. We're all here in one piece. We've been re-transplanted, so I think we're good to go. All right, Lane, let's get back to business. Tell us about and give us a demo, please, on 130 Point and your key features to your app.
00:15.31
Laine
yeah
00:18.12
youcantcompthis
We would love to hear about it.
00:19.83
Laine
Definitely. So we have the technology. So here we are. We actually have What we were trying to plan and show before, I finally got it up and running, which is good. So you should be able to now see a lovely view of the app, which is what we want to demonstrate, I guess.
00:28.29
youcantcompthis
Fantastic.
00:32.83
Adz
Yep.
00:35.53
youcantcompthis
Fantastic.
00:35.91
Laine
um I kind of went through some of the stuff on this lovely page we've got here with the marketplaces. We spoke about them in a bit of detail. I sort of went through you all the app overview and the what it can do, and my favorite one being that the saved items.
00:49.32
Laine
I like the camera search too, but I want to kind of make that better over time. I want to train it up and uses a a bit of AI and neural networks and all these things that people love to talk about these days in the back end.
01:00.22
Laine
I was able to find a lovely man in Australia here who was capable of doing it for me ah because I'm not um not ah very well versed in that stuff as such.
01:05.31
Adz
Nice.
01:09.60
Laine
I know how it all operates and works, but I can't actually code it myself. So yeah, so it's a tricky one.
01:12.78
Adz
Yeah.
01:14.68
Laine
But um yeah, he was very, very good, very, you know, he was excellent at putting it all together.
01:15.80
Adz
but I had to play with the camera function. I had to play with the camera function while we were, while we were chatting.
01:22.55
Laine
Yeah.
01:23.39
Adz
So yeah, I know it works.
01:23.92
Laine
Yeah, well, I guess not we might we might try it straight here. This is my virtual camera that comes up, but I've i've got a lovely card saved in here, one we spoke about before. It's a Jordan Fleer, rookie, if we want to call it that.
01:37.67
Laine
um You can pick from your camera roll or you can take a ah picture.
01:41.40
Adz
Nice.
01:41.51
Laine
um On Android, it allows you to crop. On Apple, they don't have the ability to crop. You just get the picture that you're uploading.
01:47.69
youcantcompthis
Yep.
01:47.92
Laine
um So you hit crop and it goes away and it's currently looking through 24 million images to try and get matches for you And it's going to try and bring back the best matches that possibly can based on that and also the time the most recent ones as well um So you can see here.
01:52.08
Adz
Yeah.
02:03.35
Laine
It says look, there's a PSA 7 that's which is what it was That's for sale at the moment if you want to go buy one.
02:07.38
Adz
jeff
02:09.10
Laine
There's that save item thing I was talking about I'll give you a little demo now and hope it doesn't fail me and So we say save item it goes away and it goes all right I'm going to stick this into your little database and I'll save it successfully for you and then now if I in a minute we'll go across and have a look but um if I go to my watched items tab just going to take a few moments to update just because it's going away and checking to see if you've got any items that have sold recently or if that pricing's changed at every five minutes you're allowed to sort of update your your data because anything outside of five minutes if I just let people hit refresh all the time it's just going to
02:13.46
Adz
ah Yeah.
02:43.30
Laine
trip things over and there's going to be, you know, my bills for back end servers are going to be millions of dollars.
02:48.87
youcantcompthis
yeah
02:49.20
Laine
Anyway, so you can see here, click ended not live.
02:49.49
Adz
Yep.
02:54.10
Laine
So if we hit the live items tab, the joys of running a yeah phone on a computer means it's a little bit laggy.
02:58.77
Adz
Perfect.
03:00.78
Laine
But there's that Jordan, I just just saved there showing at the top. So it's three days, 14 hours. And this is all The times are all in your local time.
03:07.73
Adz
Ah.
03:08.46
Laine
And I'll go through that in a minute as well. You've got the ability to change time zones. So it's not you know US s time. it's It's local time.
03:14.17
youcantcompthis
Yeah, great.
03:14.54
Laine
Go back to the search. um There's your results from the um from the side image search.
03:20.62
youcantcompthis
From the image search? Yeah.
03:22.96
Adz
Hmm.
03:23.88
Laine
One thing I've noticed recently, and this is like one of those little bugs that I was talking about, is that for some reason, golden sales are showing twice. And I'm trying to figure out why that is. You think you've got everything tested. And then yeah you start playing with it.
03:35.20
Laine
And you're like, well, hang on. why are these one
03:36.15
youcantcompthis
Maybe one's like a shield listing and one is an unshield listing. Is that possible?
03:40.59
Laine
The problem is they're exactly the same.
03:41.45
Adz
Ah, ah.
03:41.91
Laine
list thing so yeah They are now, they're owned by eBay now.
03:42.14
youcantcompthis
ah
03:43.71
Adz
Do god Golden have a thing with eBay, don't they?
03:48.41
Adz
Yeah, then maybe it's duplicated because it's been in the back end.
03:49.53
Laine
I don't think so because I don't think they show the same the data across too, but it's ah something worth looking into.
03:52.20
Adz
It's listed.
03:56.43
Adz
Okay.
03:57.84
Laine
but Anyway, either way, we can see yeah it's showing good results here.
04:01.66
Adz
Ken Golden just trying to get extra exposure, exposure isn't it?
04:02.39
Laine
getting just trying to get Yeah, sure.
04:05.30
Adz
Yeah, yeah.
04:05.38
Laine
You can throw me some money if you want to. It's got plenty of it. um Yeah, so there you go. So for something like a Jordan Fleer PSA 7, it's fantastic, right? It can find that image because it's so recognisable and there's so many versions of that card out there that have sold that it's very easy to get a good solid you know result for.
04:23.47
Adz
Yep.
04:28.30
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
04:29.40
Laine
so
04:29.48
youcantcompthis
Yep.
04:30.10
Adz
Yeah.
04:30.35
Laine
a Common, ah you know cards that sell quite often. you You're not gonna have an issue with the camera. It's gonna be those obscure, you know ah Pink pulsar of Eric Pascal rookie or something like that That's you know hasn't solving who knows when that it'll probably bring back a bunch of purple pulse our pink pulse are rookie cards, but not his necessarily if he doesn't have one so like that's just sort of the way you sort of start to see that little bit of a I guess a transition between
04:48.30
youcantcompthis
okay so
04:49.17
Adz
yeah
04:50.04
youcantcompthis
yeah
04:55.77
Laine
those, you know, good results and the bad ones. It's kind of it's yeah, it's doing its best, but it's got a lot of a lot of work to do on the back end. Yeah. So if you just want to do a normal tech search, you just hit the little little circle, the little search button down the corner there.
05:09.45
Laine
And it's already pre-populated what you've just searched last time as well.
05:13.38
youcantcompthis
Yeah, so I'm just going to interrupt you here for a sec, because this is the question I get the most via PM.
05:13.54
Laine
So yeah.
05:13.58
Adz
Yeah.
05:18.58
Laine
Yep.
05:18.59
youcantcompthis
People ask me, oh, what's the best way to use one 30 point? and How do you do your searches? And my answer to them is always search less.
05:23.92
Laine
Yeah.
05:26.77
youcantcompthis
That's my but sort of personal two cents.
05:26.84
Laine
Yeah, less is more. Yep.
05:29.03
youcantcompthis
But I would love to hear your tips and tricks about using keywords, um what your strategies are to use your search search engine.
05:33.81
Laine
Yep.
05:36.88
youcantcompthis
That's for me, I'd love to hear this from the horse's mouth. Yeah.
05:39.61
Laine
Yeah, for sure. So I'd say you've got a few ways of approaching it.
05:40.30
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
05:43.35
Laine
Usually it comes down to the individual card. So like, ah like this card, you know, really what I've got there. So Michael Jordan, 1986, Fleer, PSA, I'll get rid of that 87.
05:55.93
Laine
FLIR 57 PSA 7. That's going to give you a great result. I've just lost my screen for some reason. I don't know if it's decided to have a bit of a bit of a sleep. Let me get back to the home screen. Sometimes it likes to um change its mind and what it's going to do for me. But yeah, so if you're looking at... I'm just going to have to restart my little app here. Oh no, here we go. We're back.
06:26.25
Laine
So yeah, um if you're looking at a search function like this, I don't want Google to record anything. Once again, the joys of a virtual device.
06:39.00
Laine
So we had that before, like Michael Jordan, Fleer, 1986, PSA 8.
06:46.88
Adz
seven Okay Does it detract from the results because people don't put the number in Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah true
06:48.00
Laine
And if you sometimes the card number is worth doing, like for this card it is, but for other cards, don't bother. The card number quite often doesn't actually produce much of a benefit. um It can... Yeah, sometimes. um If you're looking for a PSA card, quite often people will include the numbering just because they use the title to populate the the results. um But I find it's kind of hit and miss. it's You get to some of the modern cards and it's useful because it might differentiate, you know, the Victor Wembern Yama prism you want versus the other prism version that you don't want or something like that.
07:25.56
Adz
Yeah.
07:25.59
Laine
um yeah You're looking for his silver prism rookie, but you want his base silver prism rookie. So if you put the card number in, you'll get better results. um But there's other times where it's not as useful because like the number or the lettering or whatever in the number doesn't really support a better result.
07:40.35
Adz
Yeah.
07:41.01
Laine
But like you can see here, that worked really well. So you've got really yeah really nice results. We've got Heaps of PSA-8 showing up.
07:45.12
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
07:46.66
Laine
um And then, for example, we'll use that WMB as an example. So we'll go for WMB and Yama, silver, that's called silver, silver prism, PSA 10.
07:59.45
Laine
And you'll see that this brings up an array of things. It won't just be what people are expecting. Oh, I want silver prism rookie. That's what I want. But it's not necessarily gonna bring up just that.
08:06.33
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
08:08.25
Laine
It's gonna bring up a whole bunch of other stuff. So say blue silver, what's a blue silver? That's not a thing.
08:14.41
youcantcompthis
Probably from select retail, right?
08:16.14
Laine
Yeah, you're getting the the fast break versions.
08:17.41
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
08:18.86
Laine
You're getting select. So you've got to start what I like to call curating your search term a little bit more after that. So you can see that it's 136 is the number. So in this case, yes, you would include 136.
08:31.02
Laine
You put that in there. You'd also do things like I don't want select come up. So you put a minus select and that gives you anything that doesn't include select.
08:37.68
youcantcompthis
Okay.
08:42.41
youcantcompthis
Sure.
08:42.60
Laine
You can do the same for optic. You can put minus optic in.
08:45.84
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
08:46.04
Laine
um
08:46.76
youcantcompthis
Can you do minus select minus optic?
08:48.43
Laine
Yeah, yeahp you can do multiple minuses.
08:49.26
youcantcompthis
Yeah. And do you have to put a space between it or a comma?
08:52.75
Laine
Yeah, so it's just a space. So like in this instance, I want to get rid of fast break.
08:53.98
youcantcompthis
Okay.
08:55.68
Laine
So I'm now going to go back into it and go, all right, I'm going to get rid of minus fast and minus break, just in case there's some weird combination that people are putting into their results.
08:57.70
Adz
Mmm.
09:05.90
Laine
And that just sort of takes out those terms from being part of the results.
09:08.27
youcantcompthis
Great. Yeah. I think that's, this is the type of stuff that I wanted to hear. That's, that's amazing. I actually, I didn't know that. So I'm very happy about this.
09:14.57
Laine
So now you Yes, now you see we've really been able to curate our results to what we want.
09:16.49
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
09:19.03
youcantcompthis
Yeah. Yeah.
09:19.53
Laine
We're getting just that one version of the Wembley Prism PSA 10 silver. That's what we want from, you know, his true Prism rookie, if that's what you want to call it, the silver.
09:29.79
Adz
Yeah.
09:29.96
Laine
So yeah, that's, that's kind of some of the ways you can, you can curate this. um You know, it's a, it's an art. It's not a, there's no rule, strict rule that says you do this, you will get the results you want.
09:42.68
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
09:43.06
Laine
just have to be willing to sort of fiddle with it a little bit.
09:43.06
Adz
Yeah.
09:45.33
Laine
And that's where the the image search side of things does come into play. It's kind of useful to get those results just from an image where you can. But it's not always perfect, because as I said, there's not always sales for that card, or there's not enough sales for that card, or it's just yeah, there's times where text is is always going to be better.
10:02.82
Adz
Yeah, but it's a good starting point I guess. Yeah.
10:05.76
Laine
Yeah, for sure.
10:07.31
youcantcompthis
So anything else you wanted to run through us with 130 point lane before we move to the next part?
10:12.29
Laine
Yeah, sure. I'll jump into the, this is going to do ah another update because ah the app essentially reloaded before. um Just a couple of things you can do in here now is in the the live items, you can do a check comps one. um It's going to do essentially some work. It's either going to use the title from the card or the image or a combination of both to get the most recent results for that card.
10:38.11
Adz
Mm.
10:38.22
Laine
So we'll do the same here. Again, what we did with the the previous one, we'll click on the Jordan PSA 7 because it's usually a good example. It tends to provide the sort of results you want to show people.
10:48.21
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
10:48.25
Adz
Mm.
10:48.56
Laine
And it's doing the same thing again. It's going away. It's doing all the work to try and figure out if it can find a card that matches that specific item and come back with some results.
10:58.80
youcantcompthis
ah Tell us about the random fact too. So is that literally just like a whole bunch of dead jokes you came up with or?
11:03.90
Laine
I didn't come up with them myself. I've sort of ah yeah know taken the assistance of a certain chat GPT and developed several hundred of these and put them into a file that I can update from time to time with new ones when people get bored of them.
11:13.73
youcantcompthis
Okay.
11:18.01
Adz
It's all helpful.
11:22.59
Laine
um Yeah, so no, I haven't.
11:24.77
youcantcompthis
Have you seen Alien Romulus yet? There's an AI bot in that that basically tells dad jokes.
11:27.94
Laine
No.
11:31.22
youcantcompthis
I thought maybe.
11:31.38
Laine
Ah, right.
11:31.39
Adz
Oh wow.
11:32.06
Laine
da Yeah, yep. Yeah, I'm not sure this one's not working very well on the ah on the emulator, but yeah, um I've been using it on my um phone quite a bit and then the phone being a little bit more powerful in terms of having the internal hardware can process some of this stuff better because it's actually trying to send quite a lot of information in the back end.
11:35.00
Adz
And a modium of parrots.
11:44.11
Adz
Mmm.
11:48.51
youcantcompthis
It's okay. It's, it's totally fine. This is, it looks pretty good on my end. So it's, it's fine, mate. Yeah.
11:53.33
Laine
Yeah, so yeah, there's that is the safe search as I spoke of before. You can add whatever you want into this and you just click the link. You can have for sale. You can have anything soon as all that sort of stuff. I mentioned notifications as well before.
12:05.92
Laine
You've got a page for your notifications as well. So if you happen to miss the notification and you want to come back and see it and click on it again, you can come here and you can go check what notifications you have and actually click on those items and see how they went.
12:12.77
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
12:17.71
Adz
yep Yep.
12:19.79
Laine
So, yeah.
12:20.76
youcantcompthis
Great.
12:22.24
Adz
It's a clip up. I'll watch it.
12:23.52
youcantcompthis
ah Great. Is there anything else you wanted to chat about on this before we moved on to the next point?
12:29.33
Laine
ah No, we're looking pretty good, I think, yeah.
12:31.59
youcantcompthis

youcantcompthis
The lads will take care of you with the promo code YCCT10. Gentlemen, we are back. I'm on to talk about the next topic, which I think I'm going to try and meld in a little bit of new news with also another service that you provide, Lane. So unfortunately, ah my favorite or least favorite person in the world, ah Jeff Wilson is back on Instagram doing all sorts of publicity for us, but basically what he was running through was the new T's and C's for PSA lane, so I wanted to run this past you. This was actually pointed out to me by LuhoPC from Instagram, so thank you so much for the the DM. PSA can now come after you legally and seek damages and injunctive relief if you've cleaned your cards. I'm actually wondering if old mate Jeff Wilson is taking a bit of liberty here and he's gone.
14:23.12
youcantcompthis
from um modifying or say trimming cards and then calling it cleaning cards because so I think seeking legal damages from a person who's sending in a clean card seems like a little bit too far for me. What's your thoughts on this lane?
14:39.19
Adz
We're just going to pause for a sec because if you read the chat, Laids ducked out for a sec. You just had to duck out for a tick. So we'll just hit pause the recording there.
14:56.11
Adz
I think Lane didn't understand what you were trying to say. I thought you should.
15:01.56
Laine
Yeah, so it's an interesting development, I guess, in that change to the terms and conditions. We, with our, obviously the hobby Australia is our other business here, the hobby Australia cards and collectibles, which is our PSA group submission.
15:14.54
Laine
Part of that company is PSA group submissions. We're a PSA certified dealer. We've been doing it now for quite a while. I think we first started in 2017 was when we did our first ever submission. So,
15:24.58
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
15:25.41
Laine
Yeah, it's been a while and um they do from time to time, they do change their terms and conditions, which is what most businesses do, it happens. Obviously they change it to adapt to whatever's going on in there the the business world they're in.
15:37.63
Laine
And obviously with PSA, that's yeah cards and one of the hot topics in the past 12 months has been yeah card cleaning and what constitutes altering versus what's cleaning versus restoration versus I think the term PSA uses is doctoring is one of the the key ones they refer to it as.
15:54.68
Laine
so um
15:54.84
youcantcompthis
It didn't help when Kurtz Cardcare did this like enormous set of essentially like, you know, soaking cards and and preserving them and restoring them and resubmitting them to PSA.
15:58.47
Adz
ah That thing was... That was gross.
16:06.97
youcantcompthis
Like I think that I actually do wonder if that sort of series of videos that he did.
16:07.87
Laine
Yeah.
16:11.51
youcantcompthis
And let's be honest, I think Kurtz Cardcare were already on the PSA radar. I don't, for me, the optics of that was not very helpful to be perfectly honest. here Yeah.
16:20.49
Laine
Yeah, there's look, there's extremes to it. Now, PSA, it's not a new thing for PSA to have these things in their terms and conditions.
16:22.86
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
16:27.48
Laine
I think it's just more how they've adjusted the wording of them recently to sort of take more of a consideration of some of those processes that are being used by people like Kurtz Cardcare.
16:38.86
Laine
um Some of the stuff they do is perfectly legitimate, right? yeah He has his card spray and he uses that to remove fingerprints and and grime and things that get on cards that aren't naturally part of the card.
16:51.17
youcantcompthis
Yeah. And let's be honest, they also don't come clean from PSA sometimes too.
16:52.80
Laine
No, and and you know if you've you've got non-card auto, there's a chance there's a fingerprint from the player on it and things like that that some people love and other people hate.
16:55.53
youcantcompthis
Like, yeah, yeah.
17:02.21
Laine
so you know and it's
17:03.02
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
17:05.06
Adz
Mmm.
17:05.33
Laine
If you've had a card that got you got in a break, and the breaker might have put his finger on it because he's got to hold the card at some point and there's a little bit of a fingerprint. It's just how it is. So a lot of those things, they've always been when i yeah I went through the dealer sort of process with them, the interview and the sort of the onboarding, it was always a case of we don't mind if you do that sort of cleaning of debris off the card or fingerprints and things like that.
17:29.47
Laine
um It was always a case of the restoration has always been something that they don't approve of or trimming. Obviously, that's a that's a yeah pretty For most people it's pretty cut and dry.
17:37.97
Adz
That's a massive, massive no-no.
17:39.38
Laine
There are there's a whole that's a whole world in its own but when you start talking about vintage cards and and what constitutes trimming and sizing and there's a whole world in there of that you can do a whole episode on it, but yeah, there's That kind of level of where their tolerances and obviously their tolerance is nothing can be added to the card and
17:39.65
Adz
Yeah, yeah.
17:59.66
Laine
or technically removed, I guess, if you want to call it that, for when it comes to things like trimming. And that includes things like they don't want to see polishes on it. They don't want to see people and adding to edges and things. um yeah I guess the one that I still personally think is what I would classify as a gray area is the use of things like humidifiers to remove dents and things from cards. Now, you could argue that what happens if you live in a tropical region where it's humid and moist?
18:30.21
Laine
throughout the year.
18:30.53
Adz
a
18:31.77
Laine
There's nothing to say that you your your cards will naturally absorb, now if they're not in a say sealed in a PSA slab already, they will naturally absorb and you know adjust based on moisture depending on how you store them.
18:32.55
Adz
The natural environment is yeah.
18:43.30
Laine
So you could literally store it on your shelf in your office in a humid area and it's still gonna attract moisture and humidity throughout the year.
18:48.85
Adz
Yeah.
18:49.60
Laine
So there is, that one's a kind of a gray area for a lot, like I personally feel that's hard to track anyway.
18:56.36
Adz
It's a very, that's a very environmental factor though.
18:56.71
Laine
If someone's using it to unify,
18:59.03
Adz
Yeah, true.
18:59.05
Laine
Yeah, exactly. It's not like, are they adding to it? Well, yes, there's moisture, but moisture is in the air. Like you can have these arguments until the cows come home, but that one's kind of in the gray area. But when you start, I think it's more the, yeah, I don't think you can.
19:09.71
youcantcompthis
I wonder how they police that two lane. How would they know that humidity had been added to a card and then removed? Like I think that's, yeah.
19:15.63
Laine
You can't. I don't think there is. Unless you've got some start putting things in the cards that show you, you know, it's a humidity.
19:18.30
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
19:22.19
Laine
you've read like Yeah, this
19:23.18
youcantcompthis
And if you're looking at a card for 30 seconds, like how are they going to, you know, yeah.
19:23.44
Adz
Oh, postcodes that they were, yeah.
19:26.92
Laine
it's not happening.
19:27.04
Adz
What was their geographical location?
19:27.64
Laine
So. It's just going to come down to, you know, if the graders going through and grading 50 cards from a certain submission and and he ends up with sticky fingers, cause he's yeah getting a bit of wax on it every single time or a bit of polish or something.
19:41.92
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
19:42.10
Laine
Well, the card smells really weird because there's somebody who's used, you know, furniture polish on it or whatever that people want to use.
19:42.24
Adz
Yeah.
19:48.07
Laine
Um, then, you know, it's going to become obvious. So I guess it's a, you know, that's what PSA is trying to avoid. They don't want to be caught in a position where they are liable for something because they've graded it because they've got an authenticity guarantee as well.
20:00.60
Adz
Yeah.
20:02.86
Laine
So if it passes their grading, then if something comes up later on down the track and you've bought that card from someone, they have to pay you out the full amount of that card's value at the time.
20:03.45
Adz
Yeah, true.
20:12.38
youcantcompthis
So just taking this full circle, are you actually trying to say that Jeff Wilson is um misreading the PSA terms and conditions in that case? Because if I listened to what Jeff Wilson said, he said, if you clean your cards, you could then be um sought for damages by PSA.
20:29.32
youcantcompthis
And i right I actually think he's deliberately being misleading, which is a very un-Jeff Wilson thing to do, right?
20:32.73
Laine
Well, I've got a website open in front of me, right?
20:36.07
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
20:38.01
Laine
And I've got the terms and conditions and I've searched for cleaning, right?
20:38.45
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
20:41.12
youcantcompthis
yeah
20:41.46
Laine
Or the term clean, um, which only comes up three times in there. The first time it's in and what they define as being doctored, um, for the terms of the presenter doctored or doctoring means the alteration of the appearance of any item.
20:54.78
Laine
by things such as limited trimming, recoloring, bleaching, power raising, cleaning, waxing, rebacking, or any other form of restoration used to enhance the appearance or condition of an item. So cleaning there is not very well defined.
21:07.35
Laine
The next time it's referred to, it says, bears evidence of harsh cleaning. We're not assigned a numerical grade. So artificial toning damage surfaces.
21:14.94
youcantcompthis
yeah
21:16.85
Laine
So there's there's a sort of another reference there. And the third one is, um may deactivate a cert label on any previously graded item that it believes to be doctored, counterfeited, tampered with, cleaned, altered, or otherwise in violation of these terms.
21:30.56
Laine
But they don't actually define what clean is in that in these terms, there's no bit that says cleaning is this.
21:34.17
youcantcompthis
Yeah. Is.
21:38.08
Laine
So that gives them flexibility to determine what they classify as cleaning because
21:38.27
Adz
Yeah.
21:38.37
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
21:43.98
Adz
Yep. And sound sounds from there from there just those descriptions there. It's implying cleaning products are being used on the car.
21:51.90
Laine
Yeah, that that look, to me, that's still what I think it is.
21:54.56
Adz
Yep.
21:54.70
Laine
But unless PSA comes out and sort of clarifies and says, no, we think you you aren't allowed to do anything anymore, then yeah we don't know.
22:02.13
Adz
Yeah.
22:03.24
Laine
um I would say, like, I haven't seen anything yet from them that specifically says that.
22:03.45
Adz
Yeah.
22:08.90
Laine
I don't know if Jeff's got any you know direct insight that he's got from PSA that says this. I'll certainly be just clarifying it with my PSA rep and saying, hey, what do you guys actually mean by this?
22:19.39
Adz
Yeah.
22:19.95
Laine
give us some more information because we offer a cleaning service, which is a wipe down and a debris removal. It's not polishing. It's not restoration. It's none of that. It's just a surface wipe, clean, get any marks and smudges off, get dust off, that sort of thing.
22:29.75
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
22:33.62
Laine
And it's not our service. It's somebody else we work with. But still, I want to know, is that still something that we can offer?
22:36.69
youcantcompthis
100%.
22:38.58
Laine
like you know So, yeah, we'll be seeking a bit more clarity on that.
22:39.54
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
22:43.15
Laine
And I'm sure though they're pretty good these days. They've come out with a lot of things when these questions have come up and sort of clarified.
22:48.95
Adz
yeah
22:49.02
Laine
And hopefully, you know, sort of when you look at what's around those words, you know, trimming, recoloring, bleaching, power raising, waxing, rebacking. To me, cleaning means something a bit more than just wiping the card.
23:03.09
Adz
Yeah.
23:03.29
Laine
You know, everything else around it is pretty harsh kind of words, you know, things that to do to a card.
23:06.87
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
23:08.99
Laine
But just cleaning is is kind of pretty, you know.
23:12.71
youcantcompthis
I think altering and tampering for me are the two words that is probably the key words in that sentence.
23:17.35
Adz
They stick out, yeah.
23:17.63
Laine
Hmm.
23:19.05
youcantcompthis
You know, and I feel like if you're not doing tampering and you're not doing altering, I think for me, that's the way my brain works to kind of say everything else is okay.
23:19.16
Laine
Yeah.
23:25.15
Adz
Yep. Yep.
23:27.95
youcantcompthis
You know, I think that humidity thing one, I would actually put that into the tampering category, to be honest with you.
23:28.04
Laine
Yeah. Yeah.
23:34.02
Laine
Deliberately doing it, then obviously you're trying to do something, but.
23:34.96
youcantcompthis
Yeah, with without taking taking people out who live in Brisbane in Northern Territory, you know, I think that's, you know, it was straight.
23:39.88
Adz
so So what we do is we're taking basketball cards to the zoo and we're going to go through the butterfly enclosure.
23:45.96
Laine
Yeah, just hang out there for a while.
23:47.36
Adz
It's just like, just I like butterflies, okay?
23:47.44
Laine
yeah
23:48.09
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
23:49.87
Adz
Why are you carrying a backpack full of basketball cards?
23:51.93
Laine
ah
23:52.32
Adz
What are you talking about? Oh, are they my cards?
23:54.32
Laine
No. Yeah. Yeah. i Look, that's the thing that everybody sort of and other people will say, well, no, you're just restoring the surface. But then in terms of PSAs, terms and conditions, restoration is not allowed.
24:07.39
Laine
So, you know, therefore, would you then say that wiping a fingerprint off is considered restoration?
24:07.77
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
24:12.43
Laine
That's how far does that restoration clarification like that? Sorry, those bounds of restoration actually go. So, yeah.
24:17.84
youcantcompthis
yeah
24:19.55
Laine
Yep, it is an interesting one. I guess we'll see over the next week or two what sort of comes out from it and how they interpret it.
24:26.35
Adz
Mmm
24:28.24
youcantcompthis
tell us about your rip and flip program. Is that, have I got the naming of that correct?
24:32.44
Laine
yeah Yeah, well, that was the yeah that was the original term um we had for the program. We kind of have just more merged it across into a golden consignment service where we will get cards graded for people through PSA and get them sold on golden.
24:46.17
Laine
um then we can manage all the process for them. We ship it, we get it graded, we get it listed, they sell it, we get the payout sent to us, we send it to their Australian bank account. and They don't have to worry about conversion rates, they don't have to worry about any of that stuff.
24:59.26
Laine
um yeah We get good contracted rates with golden for payout percentages, so 105% of the payout, which you know sounds stupid, to hang on, what's 105%? Well, it's 100% of the final bid, plus 5% of the buyer's premium as well on top of it.
25:14.16
youcantcompthis
Yeah, that's really good.
25:14.48
Laine
So the buyer's paid 22%. on top of their final bid. So yeah, that basically means they get that extra 5% on top.
25:17.56
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
25:21.72
Laine
And yeah, we apply that to pretty much any card we send there. Typically, we we sort of say people, you really want your cards to be worth at least $200 US, maybe closer to 500 to really warrant sending them there.
25:33.68
Laine
It's and not necessarily worth sending in cheaper cards, but we have sent plenty of them and before as well.
25:41.57
Adz
Yep.
25:41.73
Laine
um Yeah, we have supported everything from, yeah a few cards worth $30 to cards worth hundreds of thousands of dollars have been sent there. So yeah, we can do a bit of everything.
25:53.38
Laine
A lot of people like it because they get their eyes from the US market and they won't get here. And sometimes it goes really well. And like any auction, occasionally they don't go as well as you want them to. We've had a few cards that didn't perform as we'd hoped.
26:02.90
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
26:05.17
Laine
And unfortunately the customers didn't quite get what they were after for it. And it's always disappointing for us when that happens, because obviously we're trying to get the best for these people and get the best they can for their sales.
26:15.28
Laine
and sell their cards that get a good experience from it and when they don't that's always sad to see but unfortunately we can't control what a card sells for and nobody really can unless they're going to start doing some devious things and you know sure bidding in their own cards which you know we we we very much tell them not to.
26:17.04
Adz
Yeah.
26:29.62
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
26:34.24
youcantcompthis
Moving forward, what platform do you think has got the most potential? Because I have to admit the Golden's eBay in in collaboration with the eBay Vault, which is now the PSA Vault, like that just seems to me to be like the the leader in our industry.
26:52.23
Laine
So yeah, I think there's um there's two clear streams of these kind of um groups, I guess, at the moment. You've obviously got the eBay Golden um collaboration group, business, whatever you want to call it now, they're all owned by one company.
27:05.42
youcantcompthis
Yeah, sure. Yeah.
27:07.55
Laine
um And with obviously that, they've lost the vault that's gone across to collectors. So the vault they share is now a collector's vault, not a golden vault any anymore, or not a PSA, you know, it's its own sort of now, but separately to golden.
27:13.22
youcantcompthis
Oh, okay.
27:20.27
youcantcompthis
Okay.
27:24.74
Laine
So golden and eBay, ah the two ah marketplaces, right?
27:26.16
Adz
Yeah.
27:28.85
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
27:29.48
Laine
The vault is actually eBay's vault and PSA's vault are now joined together and owned by collectors.
27:35.61
youcantcompthis
Okay, but you can still access it through PSA and eBay.
27:36.56
Laine
So collectors only vault.
27:37.79
Adz
Wow.
27:40.83
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
27:41.20
Laine
You can still list your items from eBay. So my understanding, I haven't got any eBay vaulted items, so I don't know exactly the process, but the idea is that if you do, you can still list them.
27:54.20
Laine
They physically might now, they might not have moved. Just the person who, the company running the eBay vault is actually collectors and ultimately long-term, it's all one vault.
27:59.39
youcantcompthis
Yeah. Yeah.
28:03.66
youcantcompthis
yeah
28:03.83
Laine
And you just list stuff from the collector's vault into eBay So they've still got an integration and you can still send it to golden I believe as well But you still I think now you have to physically ship it to golden if you want to sell But they might be working on that integration.
28:09.77
Adz
Yeah.
28:17.18
Laine
I'm not sure yeah, so they're they're obviously one um the big other big like the the sort of big one that's in the front of most people's minds with
28:22.14
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
28:25.83
Laine
When it comes to vaulting and grading and selling and auctions, eBay, you know, unparalleled reach of eBay, which is, you know, great for a lot of people and also golden with the high end.
28:27.42
Adz
Yeah.
28:35.65
youcantcompthis
Yeah, it's huge.
28:38.27
Laine
So they've got that kind of covering everything from your one dollar to your million dollar cards.
28:38.73
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
28:43.20
Laine
Right.
28:43.66
youcantcompthis
And I heard they're going to be cross-listing from Golden Sound to eBay too.
28:43.72
Laine
um
28:43.78
Adz
Yeah.
28:46.91
Laine
That's our understanding. Yeah.
28:47.84
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
28:47.91
Laine
Yeah. So when I've spoken to them, that's what they said they're going to cross list, you know, depending on
28:48.33
Adz
Yeah.
28:53.96
Laine
yeah how it all flows out, it might be that weekly auctions, you bid on eBay for them, but they're listed by Golden and then the el lead auctions, you see them on eBay, but you bid on Golden. I'm not quite sure how that's all going to play out.
29:04.99
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
29:05.61
Laine
That'll be up to them longer term to sort of iron out. But yeah, so that's that's yeah that big, I guess, conglomerate of of those companies.
29:09.35
Adz
Yeah.
29:14.26
Laine
And then obviously, on the other side, you've got Fanatics Collect, so XPWCC, and they're really changing and expanding the way they operate. They do similar things, I guess, in terms of they've got the marketplaces, they've got their weekly auctions, they've got their their elite auctions, you can vault your items with them.
29:33.39
Adz
Yeah.
29:33.44
Laine
um you can now the The big thing that they've done that I guess gives them a bit of a leg up in some ways is they've now got CGC actually physically located at their Fanatics Collect Facility.
29:45.83
Laine
So you can now send cards to Fanatics Collect and get them graded within 24 hours as their long-term aim at the moment. It's a few days most likely. And CGC is also doing raw card authentication.
29:57.80
Laine
So you can actually sell your raw cards through them and you pay a small fee for them to be authenticated. So they check them to make sure there's no clear evidence of trimming. If there's damage, they'll note what the damage is.
30:08.13
youcantcompthis
Yeah, sure.
30:08.50
Laine
Make sure it's a real card, all that sort of stuff, like the eBay authenticity program um does kind of thing.
30:13.94
Adz
Yeah.
30:14.12
Laine
And they will then allow you to sell it as a raw card. So you don't have to have it graded. It's actually an authenticated raw card that's being sold. um So that's, you know, there's a lot of people out there who don't want to grade their cards.
30:21.59
Adz
Wow. Okay.
30:26.26
Laine
And this gives them the opportunity to to sell their cards through a large auction house without having to grade it for a small fee. So yeah, I think it's um a different way of approaching it. And it's just gives them that little, that but I guess that difference, that market difference.
30:41.75
youcantcompthis
So fanatics are collaborating with CGC.
30:45.51
Laine
Yeah, so CGC actually have graders on site in house to grade the cards as they get you so you can ship them to Fanatics collect and they will get graded at the same facility as they're being vaulted.
30:51.68
youcantcompthis
Yeah. Yeah, right.
30:58.28
Adz
Wow.
30:58.84
Laine
They also offer PSA grading, BGS grading, SGC grading as well. um You just ship you ship it to them. You tell them what company you want them to grade with and they'll do it for you and then bring it back to your vault and then you can sell.
31:11.20
youcantcompthis
So I've just quickly ducked on to Twitter checking out my friend Ryan's amazing statistics. So you items graded yesterday 58,000 by PSA 10.9,000 by CGC, SGC 10.5,000 and Beckett 3.4. So That sort of actually shifts the, this is, we'll make this really short, but it sort of shifts the the equation in my head.
31:38.04
youcantcompthis
I never really counted CGC into being a big player, but if they're going to be affiliated with fanatics, like that actually changes that sort of grading landscape a little bit, doesn't it?
31:42.41
Laine
um
31:45.46
Laine
yeah
31:46.83
Adz
Mmm.
31:47.12
Laine
Yeah Yeah, I think they're um because they they have a huge number of TCG people who grade with them as well I think Yeah, yeah, exactly.
31:48.10
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
31:53.58
youcantcompthis
And comic books is their thing, isn't it? Yeah.
31:56.20
Laine
So by the time you add in that if you start adding more sports on top of it You're gonna see their numbers.
31:56.52
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
32:00.96
Laine
They're probably gonna Quite easily sit number two overall. I reckon it's gonna be you know, they've got the fanatics brand behind them as well so
32:10.04
youcantcompthis
Yeah, that's just a single day that I quoted then. but And they're sort of the second or second or third on average, looking at through all this.
32:12.88
Laine
Yeah.
32:15.97
Laine
Yeah, they typically sit there, aren't they?
32:18.18
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
32:18.57
Laine
So yeah, you might see them like it doesn't necessarily mean they're going to become, you know, value wise, the ah second most sought after brand.
32:18.93
youcantcompthis
yeah
32:19.90
Adz
Can it? Oh.
32:27.99
Laine
It'll just mean that by volume, they'll probably be up there.
32:29.67
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
32:30.37
Laine
And then over time, they might move ahead of, you know, the likes of BGS and SGC when it comes to sports card grading.
32:35.30
Adz
All
32:37.80
Laine
We don't know.
32:37.81
youcantcompthis
Well, looking at the weekly numbers, they've definitely, yeah, so there's 13,000 difference between them and SGC and then 30,000 between them and Beckett.
32:38.62
Adz
right.
32:47.91
Laine
Yep.
32:48.12
youcantcompthis
That actually gives a lot of context for those numbers, doesn't it? Yeah.
32:51.97
Laine
Yeah, well, I guess um yeah we'll see how it goes long term if it makes an even bigger difference again. But yeah, like they do a lot of the weekly sales on PWCC has a huge number of things there.
32:57.75
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
33:04.77
Laine
And I guess there is a third yeah entity in the in the whole mix that um yeah this the there are more than three, but I guess out of the bigger ones and the other one is alt. x y z think I they go by on their URL if you're ever looking for them. But you know we've done a lot of work with them. We've discussed a lot of things with them over in the 130 point world over the last year. And yeah they're a very open company to talk to. They give us a lot of information and insights into what they're doing and how they go about things. And and I think they're definitely um
33:37.44
Laine
you know, very interesting in terms of how they're going to progress over the next few years and and the sort of things they can offer people that are going to differ from other other companies.
33:43.40
youcantcompthis
Yeah, right.
33:46.28
Laine
So, yeah, they're definitely someone to keep an eye on as well.
33:49.42
youcantcompthis
Yeah, great. So we've got about five minutes left. Is there anything you wanted to tie off here before we move on to the last point, which is your shop front?
33:57.07
Laine
OK, yeah. there No, just that, you know, if you're looking to submit for PSA, we're always open to taking the cards.
34:03.94
youcantcompthis
How do we find you, Lane? That's probably worth mentioning, isn't it?
34:05.45
Laine
Yeah.
34:06.78
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
34:06.84
Laine
and Definitely, it's probably a good way of doing it, isn't it? So where the easiest way to find us is the hobby dot.com.au. That's where we have all our information on grading and what options we have. So we do PSA and Beckett grading. Once a month, we send them off. So we have all the dates there, how to submit cards. We make it as easy as possible. We do a thing called a simple submission form where you literally put your name, email address, how many cards you've got. If you want any cleaning done on it now that it's you know maybe a taboo word but you know if you want your cards prepped for grading um and if you've got autographs if you want them graded as well yeah yeah we're stuffed cut cool again um card
34:41.41
Adz
Prepared that's it. That's probably yeah there for for protection from you know, those evil terms and conditions like prepared for grading. Yes Yeah
34:53.33
Laine
prep. I don't know. Anyway, I'm sure we'll be fine. We'll work it out. Yeah, so we've got that option. um And that just makes it easy for people. They just, you know, they can put 10 cards, send it to us, and we'll we'll do all the detailed paperwork. We'll, you know, value the cards for them. We'll tell them what categories we think they need to go into, all that sort of stuff. Send them in their form, they can just have a look and say, yep, happy with that, and away they go. So
35:16.49
youcantcompthis
Great.
35:17.10
Laine
Yeah, we try to make it as easy as we can and and just get people writing easier and quicker. And as they get more comfortable, they can choose to do it that way or i'll do the full form themselves.
35:26.40
Adz
if um if If somebody's got a card that they wanna get that has gone through a different grading company and they wanna get it sent to PSA, do you guys do the crossover?
35:33.13
Laine
Yes.
35:36.46
Laine
Yep. Yeah, we offer every every grading category that's available for cards, tickets and packs.
35:43.20
Adz
Awesome.
35:43.41
Laine
So that includes crossover. That's always an interesting one, crossover. Typically, let's say you got to be just 9.5 and you want to PSA 10, you're looking at about a 10 to 15% chance of getting that to happen.
35:55.08
youcantcompthis
Yeah, right.
35:55.48
Adz
Okay.
35:55.69
Laine
It's very low and because...
35:57.01
Adz
It's one of those B, C, C, G, tens.
35:59.39
Laine
Oh God, they are an absolute, like you might as well grab a dice, throw it and hope for the best.
36:01.02
Adz
So, nightmare?
36:06.41
Adz
God.
36:06.66
Laine
Because we've seen BCCG's go from anywhere from a 10 to a 4.
36:11.04
Adz
Wow.
36:11.43
Laine
So, yeah, it's just wild. You just don't know what you're gonna get.
36:15.67
Adz
Get my dice out.
36:17.17
Laine
Pretty much, yep.
36:17.78
Adz
God.
36:18.94
Laine
Yeah, that was a, I don't know how they came up with BCCG 10's, but they are ah did some ah interesting things with some of them, so.
36:26.63
Adz
Yeah, might have been.
36:30.04
youcantcompthis
All right, we've got to make this quick, boys. We've got two minutes.
36:31.99
Laine
Yep.
36:32.77
youcantcompthis
Lane, tell us about your shop and then we're going to tie this off tonight.
36:34.13
Laine
Yep. Yep, easy. So yeah, we have a shop in Point Cook in Victoria. So down in Melbourne, Western suburbs. There's not many trading card shops out this way. I think the nearest one, Cherry and...
36:44.88
Adz
No, no, there's definitely not.
36:45.50
youcantcompthis
You've got the market corners. Yeah.
36:47.57
Laine
Well, that was part of the reason too. we We wanted a shop. We also knew there's a need for it out here. So, you know, we're really the nearest ones to us are Cherry and Sunshine Collectibles. They're the two closest to us, which are 20, 30, 40 minutes drive sometimes.
36:55.87
Adz
I was gonna say there it's some more gaming. Yeah, it's more gaming than sports cards out that way.
37:00.20
Laine
um
37:02.81
Adz
I guess.
37:02.98
Laine
Yeah, there's a bit of, there's a few gaming places, but not many either.
37:03.66
Adz
Yep.
37:05.18
Laine
So um yeah, so we've we've we've got a retail shop open now um yeah in Point Cook.
37:05.18
Adz
Yep.
37:10.33
Laine
So you can come in, we're just off the freeway, five minute walk from the train station at Williams Landing. We're now open on Friday nights till 9pm and we're open 11 till 3 on um Saturdays.
37:21.26
Laine
So yeah, if people want to come down on the weekends or on a Friday night and Have a look. We've got plenty of stock. We've got thousands of singles. We've got yeah everything from high-end hobby to low-end retail packs. Yeah, a bit of everything. So, and if you want to drop the cards off for grading, you can do that as well.
37:36.89
youcantcompthis
Great.
37:38.42
Adz
Sounds like an option. I am.
37:39.40
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
37:40.27
Adz
Yeah, I don't know. I go. I'm family out in the West. So I go for somewhere to drop off on ah on a Saturday on the way on the way to visit.
37:43.53
Laine
No, well, yep. If you're out here, you can drop by.
37:48.09
Laine
Yep.
37:48.62
Adz
Yeah.
37:49.83
Laine
Now, we had a lot of people who wanted to know, you know, they want to do drop-offs where they work all week or,
37:54.41
Adz
Yeah.
37:54.54
Laine
You know, they can't get in for whatever reason. So although the kids that want to come in after school on a Friday or bring on a Saturday or something, there's there's plenty of and i have people out there who just can't get in during the week, which is totally understandable.
37:59.03
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
38:06.46
Laine
So we're trying to you know offer a bit more service to people and you know also have that sort of retail shop and i experience that people like to have.
38:09.02
Adz
Yeah.
38:15.59
Laine
And that's not too bad.
38:15.69
youcantcompthis
Yep.
38:16.13
Adz
Is it a big space?
38:18.11
Laine
ah It's not huge, huge, but it's decent. We've got Plenty of room for people to sit down. We've got a back room with chairs and tables and that's where all the singles are. They can pull the boxes out. There's like yeah eight seats down there with two big tables and and plenty of room. It's not cramped by any means. There's ah heaps of face.
38:34.29
youcantcompthis
Great.
38:34.78
Adz
We'll have to, mike Russell, I might have to pop down for a dig through some boxes.
38:38.40
youcantcompthis
That's it. Get some pocket change.
38:40.00
Adz
That's it.
38:41.74
Laine
Sounds good.
38:43.51
youcantcompthis
Final thoughts lads before we tie off?
38:47.97
Laine
ah for myself. Look, I'm just very happy to be part of this lovely world that is trading cards and I'm very happy they've been able to turn it into a full-time job.
38:54.77
youcantcompthis
yeah
38:57.46
Laine
So, you know, happy to support people where I can and and really appreciate you guys having me on.
38:59.01
youcantcompthis
Yeah.
39:03.78
Laine
It's always good to have a chat about these things. It makes me think a little bit about what I'm doing in a different context as well when I get some questions that I don't usually get. So, yeah, I appreciate it.
39:11.93
youcantcompthis
I think it'll polish up just fine, man.
39:12.81
Adz
Yeah.
39:13.11
Laine
and Yeah, thanks for bearing with my somewhat technical difficulties here and there. We managed to get there in the end, which is good.
39:20.53
youcantcompthis
Yeah, it'll be fine.
39:20.74
Adz
It will, it'll it'll be great. Now we really, really appreciate you coming on and and and sharing some insights, especially with that app.
39:24.17
youcantcompthis
Yeah. Yeah.
39:27.70
Adz
I mean, one 30 point has become synonymous with the hobby. Most people when they're looking for their comps, it's, it's sort of the, the number one reference point, I guess, which is, which is pretty cool.
39:40.08
Laine
Yeah.
39:42.08
Adz
Yeah.
39:42.22
Laine
And I appreciate it. Thank you.
39:43.91
youcantcompthis
Thank you so much, everyone, for listening. Thank you so much, Lane, for coming on. We're honored to have you here. Thank you, Adam, for your video wizardry. I think that's ah definitely worth saying. And actually, too, thank you, Adam, for your clips you've been making.
39:56.70
youcantcompthis
They've been doing quite well on socials, mate. You've done a very good job with that.
39:58.44
Adz
Yes, yes.
39:59.50
youcantcompthis
So Instagram, Twitter, and also YouTube Shorts.
39:59.50
Adz
Well, you can check them out on what YouTube, on on TikTok, and you're putting them out on on Instagram as well, I think.
40:03.30
Laine
Oh, OK.
40:08.52
Laine
Well, they're everywhere.
40:09.23
youcantcompthis
I've recently worked out how to do that, too.
40:09.68
Adz
That's it.
40:11.28
youcantcompthis
So, yeah. ah
40:12.30
Adz
We're learning technology.
40:13.42
youcantcompthis
Yeah, that's right.
40:13.84
Laine
Yeah, I recently turned 40 and I'm starting to you know get involved in some of the stuff that I previously wouldn't have. But, you know, that's about 20 years ago, isn't it?
40:21.18
youcantcompthis
That's right.
40:22.20
Adz
it's very It can be very confronting.
40:22.72
youcantcompthis
Hashtagging.
40:25.54
Laine
Hashtagging.
40:25.80
youcantcompthis
Oh, for me, this is new.
40:26.11
Adz
it
40:29.65
Adz
Sure, sure.
40:30.22
Laine
I'm delving into CapCut these days, you know.
40:32.92
Adz
Oh, good.
40:33.41
youcantcompthis
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
40:35.24
Laine
I'm trying to work out some of the, there's a lot in that app. It's crazy, but anyway.
40:39.25
youcantcompthis
There's some really good YouTube videos about that actually.
40:39.88
Laine
Yeah, for sure, yeah.
40:42.03
youcantcompthis
Yeah. yeah
40:42.57
Laine
I'm sure there's a lot to learn, but anyway.
40:45.55
youcantcompthis
Alrighty guys, thank you everyone for listening.
40:45.55
Adz
ah
40:47.11
youcantcompthis
We really appreciate it. Have a great day.
