00:01.34
Russell Gibson
Let's do this.

00:04.05
Adz
reckon I reckon this will be literally like a 10 minute.

00:08.06
Russell Gibson
That's fine.

00:08.82
Adz
I think it'd just be a nice quick one.

00:13.74
Russell Gibson
Um, I think we should make a video of, um, that segment about sports cards and nonsense and then post it onto their page.

00:26.93
Adz
Yeah. like a discussion Like an actual YouTube video about the...

00:30.62
Russell Gibson
like reply back to them.

00:32.25
Adz
yeah, yeah okay.

00:35.59
Adz
I Like ah like ah like a proper 10-minute video or...

00:38.31
Russell Gibson
Yeah.

00:39.01
Adz
Yeah.

00:39.00
Russell Gibson
And see if we can get like a response out of them.

00:41.15
Adz
Like put their thing up and say we've had it. Yeah, okay. Okay. And we can go back and and have a view on it.

00:48.29
Russell Gibson
Yeah.

00:48.32
Adz
Have some key hitting points.

00:49.81
Russell Gibson
Yeah.

00:50.14
Adz
Make it nice and easy. 8 to 10 minutes. Nothing too crazy. And then just post it up on YouTube and then tag them in it and...

00:56.99
Russell Gibson
We'll just like share it onto this sports cuts and nonsense page.

00:59.75
Adz
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:04.50
Russell Gibson
I'm recording by the way.

01:05.88
Adz
Oh, yeah?

01:06.39
Russell Gibson
Yeah.

01:06.85
Adz
I'll hit record too then.

01:08.20
Russell Gibson
All right, let's go.

01:10.52
Adz
We don't do music, do we? You can do music if you want.

01:12.39
Russell Gibson
Do you want to, what do you want to jam, Adam's cards, drum roll, jam, right?

01:15.23
Adz
Up to you, NBA Jam. Sure, sure. it's Drum roll.

01:27.80
Adz
It's not really an ad break, is it?

01:29.15
Russell Gibson
No. I could that off to be fair. um I don't know. NBA Jam?

01:36.58
Adz
NBA Jam works?

01:37.57
Russell Gibson
Let's go.

01:51.71
Adz
Welcome everybody to episode 205.

01:56.45
Adz
of the You Can't Comp This NBA Trading Card Podcast, where your host Adam Amey and Russell Gibson back with another timeless moment.

02:06.88
Adz
What do we want to talk about this week, Russell? i I'm...

02:09.78
Russell Gibson
think We should start talking about, I just left that NBA jam music going just a little bit too long, I feel like. Do we enjoy it just a little bit too much?

02:17.37
Adz
I think i think well we all like NBA. Maybe we don't all like and NBA Jam. I like and NBA Jam.

02:22.68
Russell Gibson
Maybe we need like a um crossover, like a Prodigy influence remix where it's like big beats and some NBA jam.

02:22.70
Adz
We're talking about that tournament edition.

02:33.33
Russell Gibson
Maybe we could put onto the radio show. Hmm.

02:35.82
Adz
Okay, I like it, like it. Maybe we get a a custom one based on the theme of the NBA Jam and pay someone on Fiverr to to make us a new intro.

02:39.11
Russell Gibson
Anyway.

02:45.21
Russell Gibson
there are There are websites that will make songs for you now. Anyway.

02:47.99
Adz
Yeah, yeah, awesome.

02:50.82
Russell Gibson
All right. Let's talk some cards, hey?

02:52.81
Adz
Yes, on today's Timeless Moment, wait I wanted to do a quick hitter for the week.

02:54.93
Russell Gibson
You were keen to talk about this, by the way, so... Yep. Mm-hmm.

02:59.62
Adz
Okay. And it was more of a given we were talking about the processes of selling cards and buying cards and not getting scammed by cards.

03:08.53
Russell Gibson
Yep.

03:11.31
Adz
ah Look, let's just talk about storing them.

03:15.23
Russell Gibson
Sure.

03:15.70
Adz
What do we do with our cards when we've got them? um I think it's ah it's a quandary. like a People have a lot of cards. Well, not always, but when you start collecting, there's this sort of momentum that gets gained and you end up with all these cards and you start a personal collection and then the 10 cards you're displaying become ah thousand cards and you don't know what to do with a lot of them.

03:39.76
Adz
So, I don't know, it could be a bit of ah a rabbit hole or a well to go down, but that we sort of cover off the basics.

03:40.09
Russell Gibson
yeah

03:47.10
Adz
Yeah, yeah.

03:49.92
Russell Gibson
I think we should probably start off by saying there's a million different ways to do this and however you do your hobby is fine. So if you don't do what we do um that is perfectly acceptable.

04:04.52
Adz
can can i Can I make a caveat to that?

04:04.68
Russell Gibson
And so, yeah.

04:06.28
Adz
If you put rubber bands around your cards, then no, then you're the problem.

04:08.71
Russell Gibson
Yeah. yeah yeah yeah i mean that was six-year-old me that was six-year-old me i had lacquer bands and i had cards in my pocket that was my that was my jam you know

04:11.94
Adz
There's an exception.

04:21.66
Adz
I was a card storage guy from from a very early age. I never used rubber bands.

04:24.82
Russell Gibson
yeah right

04:28.16
Russell Gibson
I think even some of my old footy cards, I think the elastic bands still might be on them.

04:28.18
Adz
Anyway.

04:32.35
Adz
Yep. Oh, my God.

04:33.14
Russell Gibson
And they're kind of like, you know, they're like so dry. they I'm pretty sure they'll just break now if I take them off.

04:36.25
Adz
hu

04:39.76
Russell Gibson
So anyway, I think we should start off by talking about there's an Australian collector who just collects juicy patches and autographs.

04:41.60
Adz
Anyway.

04:49.48
Russell Gibson
His name's eluding me at the moment. And he stores and displays his cards in what I would probably just ah describe as a China cabinet.

04:59.33
Adz
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

04:59.66
Russell Gibson
So, and I'm not too sure if, so if we've got international listeners, I'm not too sure how well this is going to translate, but just sort of imagine a cupboard that's got like glass doors on it and in a structure,

05:09.92
Adz
Oh, you can buy these at Ikea. Like they're...

05:11.68
Russell Gibson
Yeah, but but people overseas, they might not know what a china cabinet is. And then you put your plates on display or your other fine china. So it might be like a cup and a saucer. um Some people collected spoons in Australia. That was like this very kind of like 80s and 90s thing. And as you traveled around to all the different pubs and stuff, you would buy a spoon.

05:31.32
Adz
Souveni spoons, I remember that, yes.

05:33.43
Russell Gibson
This is some weird Australiana I think we're talking about. Anyway, so he took a China cabinet and literally filled this thing up to the gills um with all his beautiful cards.

05:42.74
Adz
with cards.

05:44.04
Russell Gibson
So that's how he displays his cards.

05:46.61
Adz
I think any glass display cabinet is, is, is very, yeah, it's a bit of a serviceable way to, the more real estate you've got to, to display the better, right?

05:50.09
Russell Gibson
Is a win. Yeah. Yeah.

05:55.89
Russell Gibson
Yeah.

05:58.26
Russell Gibson
My brother has got like runners attached to his wall and he's put the cards up on display on these sort of like a, it's a small piece of wood.

06:05.12
Adz
Ooh, so like little, little tile, like ah almost like a landing.

06:09.01
Russell Gibson
Basically it's maybe, i don't know, say eight centimeters deep.

06:11.71
Adz
Yeah.

06:12.24
Russell Gibson
And then he puts his cards up on that. You know, that's, I think that's a really good idea and a different way you can do it.

06:14.37
Adz
Andrew Smith, Library, Interest that. Andrew Smith, And space it can serve space because you don't want to take up other space that could be used for other stuff so yeah.

06:22.26
Russell Gibson
Yeah. And then they're actually out on display.

06:23.66
Adz
Andrew Smith, Williamsburg

06:24.57
Russell Gibson
I think that's, and that's where I wanted to start off with this. I think it's a really good way to start talking about where to display your cards, because I think the tendency is to put them away or put them into boxes.

06:35.02
Russell Gibson
Whereas I think what I want to get to this is, and this is probably the most important thing I want to say today is I put my cards out onto my desk and

06:35.84
Adz
Regional Library, Yeah.

06:43.89
Russell Gibson
And I rotate that three or five cards, probably not as much as I want to, but that's something I actually i really enjoy doing, going through my collection, looking at my different cards, you know, rotating them.

06:50.76
Adz
Okay.

06:54.59
Russell Gibson
not yeah i to I have to put them away. So that's like something else I have to manage. But, ah you know, I really enjoyed that process. And that's one of the more enjoyable things about my hobby, actually, I think.

07:04.26
Adz
oh

07:04.73
Russell Gibson
So um what else?

07:06.35
Adz
I like that. I like the idea. i like the idea of rotating, having a, well, I know people that have literal rotating displays.

07:13.50
Russell Gibson
Yeah, no, my, my display is not that technical.

07:14.23
Adz
Like, and they have multiple cards on it. Yep. but But like being able to move your display, like I like that concept.

07:17.79
Russell Gibson
yeah

07:21.14
Adz
And I'm like, okay, so I could put have like a Kobe rookie theme and then maybe like a different Kobe theme later. do you know what I mean?

07:30.15
Russell Gibson
Yeah.

07:30.50
Adz
Like all different Lakers teams. I know people that collect.

07:32.38
Russell Gibson
Totally. Yep.

07:33.83
Adz
um and But being able to display them and and show them off, I think it is an appreciate your collection. it's It's an important thing.

07:40.99
Russell Gibson
Yep. Yeah, definitely.

07:42.15
Adz
um They've got the little stands you can buy, like little packs of those.

07:44.89
Russell Gibson
Right. There's heaps of card stands you can now purchase. And I think they've they've come ah along, you know, a really long way.

07:51.36
Adz
Huge, yeah.

07:51.61
Russell Gibson
You can get stands that basically come up as small hooks. So you can put your cards into that.

07:55.39
Adz
Mm-hmm, yeah.

07:56.95
Russell Gibson
There's also which I might have some sitting around.

07:59.99
Adz
Oh, the solid base and the thing for the graded cards.

08:02.70
Russell Gibson
Yeah. so or just for like even cards that are sitting into, um,

08:03.28
Adz
Yep, yep.

08:08.61
Russell Gibson
just normal top loaders. So this is called a stand up display.

08:10.10
Adz
Yep.

08:11.33
Russell Gibson
I don't even know what brand makes that actually the branding is not important, but basically you just put the top load of cards straight into that and just stands up on your desk.

08:18.63
Adz
Stands up on your desk, yeah.

08:20.46
Russell Gibson
i I really liked that. I think also too, particularly for the amount of space they take up and how many cards you can sort of get out on display. I think that's a really good option.

08:28.53
Adz
Yeah. Yeah.

08:30.44
Russell Gibson
um I've just written a few notes down here. I'll just read them off. You just interrupt me as we're going through. So i have cards that are unsorted in boxes.

08:34.94
Adz
Let's do it. Yeah.

08:37.75
Russell Gibson
So I think that's the best way to start for me. I put them into, you know, penny sleeves, top loaders and some bags. And then I literally just put them into boxes.

08:45.47
Adz
Yeah.

08:46.00
Russell Gibson
And then those boxes will just sit on my floor until one day I sort out, you know, a couple of hundred cards or whatever.

08:51.29
Adz
Mm-hmm.
